  • I Wish My GOP Did That

Posted by Andy on November 7th, 2008

I got an interesting email a few minutes ago from the Michigan Republican party. In it I found this great little article.

    Is it constitutional?

    COMMENTARY:

Which section of the U.S. Constitution gives the federal government the power to bail out banks? If you don’t know, it could be because no constitutional authority exists for such an action. It is all too common for both Congress and the executive branch to ignore that the Constitution limits what they can and cannot do.

The United States is not a parliamentary democracy; it is a constitutional federal republic, giving basic rights to the people and limiting the powers of government. America’s Founding Fathers understood that simple majoritarian democracy could trample the rights of minorities and could lead to tyranny. One of the major reasons for the relative success of the American republic is the difficulty of making significant changes in the government structure and policies. Many find this frustrating, but it allows momentary passions to cool and a more deliberative process to take place. As a result, fewer mistakes are made, in contrast to many parliamentary democracies. Because it was more difficult to put socialist schemes in place in the U.S., such as the nationalization of major industries, the people observed the failure of such programs in parliamentary countries, which diminished the enthusiasm for doing it in America.

A number of constitutional scholars, including former New Jersey Supreme Court Judge Andrew P. Napolitano and Robert A. Levy (who spearheaded the recent successful suit to overturn Washington, D.C.’s unconstitutional ban on gun ownership), have argued that the bank bailout scheme is unconstitutional. In a recent article in the Legal Times,Robert Levy stated: “The federal government has no constitutional authority to spend taxpayers’ money to buy distressed assets, much less to take an ownership position in private financial institutions. And Congress has no constitutional authority to delegate nearly plenary legislative power to the Treasury secretary, an executive branch official.” (This violates the separation of powers provisions of the Constitution.)

    It goes on.

There’s a ton of other great links in this email. I’ll have to link to them later. Stay tuned and pray someday our state party will consider doing something like this or, God forbid, pointing people to the great local blogging community.

Oh, So You DID Leave That Church Because Of The Presidential Race

Posted by Andy on November 7th, 2008

It sounds like Barrack Obama did only leave Rev. Wright’s church because he got caught, not by choice.

Obama’s Former Pastor Blames Media for Campaign Controversy

Well, it is nice that this type of information is coming up finally. Would have been nicer a few days earlier, but beggars can’t be choosers.

Any bets on if the media will ask Obama about this?

    B as in B, S as in S

Posted by Andy on November 7th, 2008

    Bravo sierra

Political pundits on the left and right agree that Sen. Barack Obama’s victory on Tuesday was due in large part to a well-run campaign.

    Bullshito.

Barrack Obama is the most inexperienced and unvetted President ever. The media never questioned his motives or policies and covered up every single one of his negatives. Obama’s campaign was well organized, but with out a loyal media, he’d never have won.

Look, a 10 point or 100 vote win is not a blow out. Won big, but it isn’t like the entire Country lost its mind that day. Barrack Obama still holds less then Pro-American views and it will be interesting to see if he goes for the whole campaign promise list with the liberal Congressional leaders or not. If he does, it will destroy our economy.

But back to this whole perfect campaign BS the media is pushing. Here’s a little example of just how in the bag the media is.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah, well, you know what? I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work, and I think that –

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Is that your job? You just talked about being a journalist!

MATTHEWS: Yeah, it is my job. My job is to help this country.

Perfect campaign? Not unless you count the media’s work too.

Hmmm, maybe if the media can “make one Presidency work”, then it is completely with in their power to make another one not work. Like the one who has had the media at his throat for the last 8 years.

This Presidential race was far from a fair fight and the revisionist reporting is further proof of the sad state of the American media.

Am I Really Running For Party Chair?

Posted by Andy on November 6th, 2008

Only if Ron Carey refuses to do the right thing after the recount is done or someone who has helped divide this party and put it in the ash heap comes forward.

A lot of people are ready for change. A lot of different groups are trying to organize and get their own ball rolling.

What I want to see done is for those of us who know the party is better than the results of the last 3 elections. We need to have a get together of those groups. If we all sit back and try to sneak around, the establishment will win again.

Trust me folks. We need to have an open and public debate about what this party needs while it is still fresh in the voters minds. If we wait for another meeting of 2-300 of us to decide the fate of the entire party in a prescribed outcome, we’ll be hosed in 2010 as well.

We need drastic change and we need it NOW!

    Turkey & Laughs

Posted by Andy on November 6th, 2008

So I am at my Church a few moments ago putting some letters on a sign. You see, my work always lends the Church our portable signs for their big Turkey Dinner every year. Actually, my Mom kinda runs the Turkey Dinner every year and wants to get the word out to the neighborhood.

Anyways, so there I am putting the signs up, and letters on, when one of the Priests walks by and yells, “Have some fun with it, make it say ‘For Sale’.”

Now that was one of the first laughs in a long long time that just caught me off guard and made me feel good.

08 Post Facto #1: My New Litmus Test For Republicans - Palin

Posted by Andy on November 6th, 2008

Anyone who wants my support or seeking to lead any faction of the GOP will have one easy question to answer:

Tell me: “What do you think about Sarah Palin and the 08 Republican race?”

Frankly women got the short end of the fairness stick in this election, but worse, it wasn’t just the media who were sexist pigs. Yep, Republican men gave legitimacy to the notion.

The treatment of Sarah Palin, both during and after this election is a travesty. Too many people got hung up on the chromosome factor and lost sight of why Sarah Palin was a great pick but more importantly, why some are out to hang the loss solely on the Alaskan Governor. The powerbrokers and the center right media were quick to define her as simply a woman, but her merit wasn’t her gender.

Palin is a party and Government reformer and that is what led to her being ostracized by the good old boys who have been running national politics and federal bureaucracies for the last few decades. Yep, the people who got the Republican party into the ash heap are terrified the Palin reform movement catches on and the strategists and pundits will be rightly blamed for the meticulous destruction of Reagan’s party.

So as we move forward as a party, and people start positioning themselves for the next paycheck and position, we need to see if they are part of the problem or part of the solution.

Sarah Palin was not a woman candidate, she was a principled conservative who puts doing what is right above party. She, or what she represents as a political reformer, is the cure for this party and those who blame her for the loss of McCain are just scared.

The way forward from here is to move beyond gender and judge people on their merit and principles. As voters did, race doesn’t matter and neither should one’s gender. We need to look at party leaders and ask them to simply move on. When people oversee multiple election cycles in leadership that have been utter colossal disassters for Republicans and the conservative movement, they should leave their office before the losing Republicans do. (Yes, I am saying MNGOP Chair Ron Carey should resign and do it as soon as the Coleman recount is done) But not just him. The National leaders also must be shown the door.

Our party needs to focus on purging those who believe the status quo is more important than principles. We need immediate change in leadership. We need courageous leaders who will look a pollster or elected official in the face and tell them that the polls don’t define what it means to be a Republican.

Unfortunately the status quo is already busy trying to galvanize their roles as part of the problem.

It is time to clean house in the GOP. Cronies, hangers-on, and powerbrokers must go. They have driven this party off a cliff in pursuit of their own personal gains. Look at where this party has gone since 2000. Look who has been running it, and no, Bush hasn’t been the sole leader. You see them all around, some in official leadership positions, others in strategist and adviser roles.

“Experience” for “experience’s’ sake might need to be a disqualifier as we look toward rebuilding the Republican Party.

Sarah Palin represents what this party needs, but not for her gender. You either get that, or are terrified of the line at the unemployment office.

Better Go Over The Obama Christmas Card List Now

Posted by Andy on November 5th, 2008

Will the men that made Obama (Rev. Wright, Aires, Rezko, etc) get to see their work through to the end and attend Obama’s inauguration?

Just a word of warning for Team Obama. Someone better not just send out invites to the usual Christmas card list.

    On That Senate Vote Count

Posted by Andy on November 5th, 2008

A recount is of the votes that were cast before polls closed plain and simple. There is no adding votes, it is too late to file lawsuits so you can pad a favorable precinct.

Nope, the recount is the second counting of the ballots already counted once before. Period.

Trying to steal an election Al? Why am I not surprised.

    We Need A Keg Party

Posted by Andy on November 5th, 2008

It is time for Minnesota Republicans to get together and have a stakeholders meeting to see where we go from here. Things were not as bad as they could have been, but we’re still heading in the wrong direction. We’re fundamentally broke as a party right now. No leadership. No vision.

If I was a millionaire I’d organize a Minnesota Republican stakeholders meeting. I’d invite all the elected officials, candidates, conservative pundits, activists, everyone.

We have got to all sit down as a party and figure out what to do. If we have another behind closed doors power grab, it will be bad for the party.

We need an open and inclusive discussion about where we go from here and how we do it.
