MNGOP Babysteps

There is someone alive at MNGOP HQ.
Republican Party of Minnesota Statement on Mark Dayton’s Potential Gubernatorial Candidacy
St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding Mark Dayton’s potential gubernatorial candidacy.
“Mark Dayton has received national recognition by Time magazine as one of ‘America’s Worst Senators’ and has himself acknowledged that he deserved an ‘F’ for his ineffectiveness in the U.S. Senate. With a track record like that, I find it beyond belief that Mark Dayton would think he has what it takes to be our governor.”
Well, it is a start. Not much of one, and in the wrong race, and not one that will draw anyone new TO the Republican party, but… babysteps AAA, only expect babysteps. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we can’t expect someone who has been running the Republican Party of Minnesota for almost….. stop.
I worked on this post over my lunch hour, originally I had a bunch of advice for Ron Carey the state party, but then I remembered they don’t care what I have to say, they don’t want people to read what I have to say, and they are ‘the professionals’. So why would I go ahead and publish advice for them? I mean, what do I know? What proof do I have that the Republican Party of Minnesota is nearing the end of relevancy? I mean it is not like I had just this morning that I had pointed out they haven’t done anything to…. stop
Well, the 2006 election results should have tipped most people off that someone dumped herbicide on the roses so we should stop waiting for them to bloom. There’s an old saying, when you are in a hole, stop digging. The same old worn out press…… stop
Nope, no advice from me. I’ve had it pointed out to me by a few people that I am no longer considered ‘friendly’ to the MNGOP and that some are being told to avoid me. So, ironically, they are actually more afraid of people talking to me, a Republican, than they are about how the only person even trying to carry a solid conservative Republican message is Rep. Marty Seifert.
(sssssiiiigggghhhh)
Let me just say, that I am actually more worried about things than I was right after the election. At the very least, I am going to have such a blast on Saturday. Oh yeah, don’t forget I will be guest hosting on the NARN from 3 to 5 the next two Saturdays for King Banaian. Yep me and Brodkorb.
No word yet if Ron Carey has tried to have the FCC license for AM 1280 pulled yet.

Tried to Silence You - This from Brodkorb and company who tried to silence anyone who spoke ill of the Governor before the election.
This is still funny - You, The man who yelled down anyone who spoke ill of Pawlenty before the election, now complaining cause no one will listen to you now!!!

Sam - the time and place for this kind of discussion is not after the endorsing convention it is now! You can not win elections if your party is pulling itself apart from within. It’s a pity that the MNGOP STILL has not learned that lesson. They walked away from the base and the base stayed home. How hard is it for them to comprehend that.
AAA - he’ll try to get Jason Lewis off of the air first. Especially after last night’s show!

Sam,
I never shouted anyone down. I made my arguments, others were doing the shouting. People are listening to me and all the others now. Unfortunately Ron Carey is more concerned with his own reputation than the future of the Republican party. He’s trying to silence anyone willing to speak out against his failures.
LL,
For some reason I don’t think they will get Lewis off the air. I would be willing to bet that Ron Carey will never appear at an event with Lewis. Hey, I think I have something in common with Lewis. Little old me?

No the time to talk is before and during endorsing conventions.
Nothing that he is doing was not know before the endorsement.
The Party decided (with Andy leading the cheer) that Pawlenty was our man - to not support him now is funny.
To complain that the party is not speaking out about Pawlenty now that he is acting exactly like he said (and everyone else said) he would act is even a bigger joke.
To have him talk about how he and Brodkorb will speak out is the biggest joke.
The current GOP behavior is there doing - The pols are just following the road that they paved.

Get your facts straight Sam. I did oppose Jeffers on this blog, but NEVER in official GOP forms. I did not speak at the conventions against her, nor for Pawlenty. The body there decided what happened, thanks to Carey and camp blocking her in Committee. I had nothing to do with that.
And to correct another oops on your part, I never said Brodkorb was going to speak against Pawlenty Saturday. I have no idea where he stands, and I doubt you do either. Be more careful before you say such things.
But then again, you are making yourself sound like God, why haven’t I ever seen you do more than troll around here playing Mr. I told you so.
Besides, unlike you, I don’t find comfort putting all the eggs in one basket. Meaning, it takes more than a Governor to run a conservative movement.
The battle should have been fought over the MN HOuse, but after people like you got pissed off, ya never showed up again. So, while you’re patting yourself on the back, congratulate yourself and those like you. We are all paying for it.
No thanks, of course to Ron Carey. You know, I did go through all the crap from you and what’s her vile commenting face for Carey and pawlenty, and now, here I am, their biggest enemy. How ironic.
gee thanks guys. I ruined my rep for you and look what it got me. Hated by everyone.
I bet there will be people lining up to risk getting involved watching how you treat people.

Andy,
Your last few paragraphs are the point I was making.
You lead the charge for Pawlenty and Carey (and took a lot of heat for it) and now you want them to change the way they behave.
They have not changed - so your complaining about people you supported is funny.
If you don’t like there behavior, the time to say something was before the election when they needed you - not now when they don’t need you any more.
Carey has not changed, Pawlenty has not changed and you did not learn.
And I don’t think anyone hates you (ok the guy who voted you #1 blog does)
I don’t hate you. Pity is a better word.
You runied your reputation by standing up for a Lideral/Moderate and all you got to show for it was a photo opp.
But as I started this off, That has been the Pawlenty way for years, so to see you surprised is funny.

I am hoping that you are exaggerating for effect. For the most part you are correct all the way around, in principle. Though you and I may disagree strongly on tactics, there is, I hope, no malice in any of it. Conservatives debate and discuss; Liberals argue and harangue. It’s that simple.
I think you secretly like being hated, though, so don’t let me spoil your fun.

AAA - how much you want to bet that Carey won’t appear with Jason????
Sam - as much as you are trying to be contrary - you agreed with me 100%! The time for this discussion is not AFTER the convention but before and that is what we are doing!
As far as your accusation that AAA “lead the charge” for the Governor - you obviously did not read Brodkorb’s blog. I’m sorry - I like Michael and all but he IS the party cheerleader.
I have said this hundreds of times and counting - Sue Jeffers hurt her own chances within the Republican Party in 2006 by approaching the Libertarian Party first. I heard her at CD2 - I liked what she had…I still like what she has to say. However, party officials (like Andy) have to support the party nominee once the nomination was done. That comes with the territory. And THAT is something that the Sue Jeffers supporters (like you Sam?) just don’t get.

Sam,
You may want to refresh my thoughts on Carey’s takjing of the helm.

Here’s a good one.
http://www.residualforces.com/http:/residualforces.com/index.php/2005/06/11/vote-of-revenge-state-central-wrap-up/
I am surprised that the same Carey who once bashed Pawlenty now has nose firmly up….
I never doubted Pawlenty would play the balance game. He has no choice but to be the consummate populist. I made arguments to enlarge the majority n the House to pull him back right. Well, MNGOP decided that was not worth it.
This was my first real taste of insider politics. I now understand why only the good old boys network survives, there is no room for dissent, let alone new ideas. It is a top down monarchy where you are to do what you told… or else. If you really think I (me AAA) am responsible for Pawlenty, you may want to take a nap and think about it. In reality, I did not vote for Pawlenty at the convention, actually I didn’t vote, I let the alternates get seated.
JE,
It is never fun being hated by people you once respected and vice versa. Call me old fashioned or rather naive, but I had hope that politics wasn’t as cut throat and dirty as they had said. It does explain why people get fed up and quit politics though. Why would any one want to be treated like that? It is fun having lefties hate me, that is a badge of honor.
LL,
I’m guessing there will be “a scheduling conflict” and Carey will have to miss it. I bet this was scheduled long before things went down. if he is afraid, or rather refuses, to talk to me, I can’t imagine he’d be OK with going up against Lewis.

What I heard from Sue Jeffers, in totality, convinced me that Tim Pawlenty was the better nominee. To paraphrase a wise man, you go to the convention with the candidates you have, not the ones you WISH you had. I would have preferred a much stronger candidate than Sue Jeffers, competition for the nomination is one of the very few “handles” you have on an incumbent. After their election they lose their hearing. Which wouldn’t be so bad but the Republicans seem to go brain-dead, too. Maybe that’s just to make it fair, though.

JE - good point on the “you go to convention with the candidates you have”. I suspected that the Governor needed another “Sullivanesque” push to the right and I really hoped that Sue was it. I think Sue will be a stronger candidate next time around.
AAA - I know the person who put the event together and it was done right around the time of the last State Central meeting. You might have a point - we shall see next Tuesday won’t we?
