On Wellstone Anniversary, Ellison In the Dark

Posted by Andy on 26th October 2007

Rep. Keith Ellison (D MN5) has been claiming that he is the next Paul Wellstone, and on the 5th anniversary of the late Senator’s death, Ellison took to the floor of the US House trying to …. well, trying to prove how close he was to Wellstone. But he got a major fact wrong.

Here’s Ellison’s speech in video and text form.

Only the day before we lost him, he was scheduled to come to my office, and we were going to do some campaigning together. It was a long night, Mr. Speaker, when we heard back the reports as the news reports said that a plane has gone down in Ely, Minnesota, and it was thought to be containing Paul Wellstone and his partner, Sheila Wellstone, and their daughter and several other campaigners. We hoped all night that what we thought might have happened didn’t happen, but at the end of the evening, we learned that that tragedy, in fact, did occur. Our worst fears were confirmed when we learned that we lost him, but it was a long several hours before we realized that that tragedy had actually occurred, and we had hoped against hope. I will never forget that night.

Wellstone was a unique individual for sure, and I myself felt like I had been punched in the gut when I heard the news that morning. Despite our 100% difference on the issues, he wasn’t polarizing in public like most Democrats. Now behind closed doors I am sure all bets on that were off, as you don’t become the patron saint of liberal progressives by being nice to Republicans in Minnesota, but still, Wellstone was always who he was because it was who he was. He was never afraid to admit he was the fringe liberal he was, unlike those trying to follow in his footsteps.

Regarding Ellison’s floor stunt, it was in the morning when Wellstone’s plane crashed. It was a cold cloudy Fall day here in the Twin Cities, if my memory serves, when the news broke. Not in the evening or at night, as Mr. Ellison ‘never forgets’.

That’s right, I think Rep. Ellison is trying to steal the memory of Wellstone for his own benefit, and in his official memorial to the late Senator, he can’t even get the facts right. Facts are stubborn things, and Ellison sure seemed to be reaching during his speech. He was stammering and seemed to be grasping, not remembering.
Oh and oddly enough, Ellison has pulled the downloadable versions of his speech down. The links are still there on the speech page to download them, but the files have been removed. Maybe that is just another mistake on his part.

In the end, it was Wellstone’s day, but Ellison couldn’t leave it at that. He tried as hard as he could to claim the Wellstone mantle as his own. If I was a Dem and held Wellstone up as a progressive prophet, I’d be offended by Ellison’s speech. But I’m not a Democrat, thank the lord.

Today, We Will See Where Pelosi’s House Falls, A For Attendance

Posted by Andy on 18th October 2007

Today the US House is planning on taking up the veto override vote on Hillary Care’s primmer, SCHIP. Reports are that Pelosi will once again fail to lead Congress in opposition to President Bush, and fall short of the veto override.

Pelosi’s first 10 months as Speaker have been pretty much dismal. She can’t get anything meaningful on the Democratic agenda accomplished, except wasting a lot of people’s time and taxpayer money. She had grand plans of forcing members to be in Washington for the entire week, and take few vacations, but nothing is getting done.

I am one who believes our Representatives should spend as much time in their Districts with constituents as possible. I know the left’s operatives (liberal bloggers) and detractors (stalkerazzi) of Republicans love to chide Republicans who think the 5 day “work” week is silly, but the truth is that it is.

You see, it is impossible for members to properly Represent their Districts when they never have a chance to be there. Now I know this works out beautifully for the Democrats, as they can stay in close contact with their prime constituents, Washington Special Interests and DC money. But that is NOT what the founders had in mind when they dreamt up ‘the People’s House’.

So Pelosi may be running a sweat shop in the House by forcing members to be in Washington all week, but she is not producing the results to match. I guess that is why Congressional Approval is hovering just outside the single digits.

Stand By The American Mission in Iraq

Posted by Andy on 6th September 2007

There’s a new project over at the Victory Caucus, Stand by the American Mission in Iraq

Iraq is now the central front in the War on Terrorism - not because Americans want it to be but because America’s enemies have said so and made it so. Al-Qaeda and Iranian-backed militias are determined to drive the United States out of Iraq. Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups would then use that country as a safe haven from which they can mount attacks on the U.S., its interests and allies.

Go read the whole Petition and sign it.

We need to send a message to our Congressional Delegation that we must stand for Victory against our enemies.

Congress is trying to ban what far too many of us need, vehicle choice.

    Support for Hill-Terry | H.R. 2927

more miles per gallon and retains vehicle choice

Go find out more about how the social engineers and anti-free choice Politicans are trying to take away your right to be an individual…..

There’s a major push to ban certain vehicles, and sadly it is gaining ground in DC. Go find out how you can put an end to the spread of anti-Ameircanism and call your Legislators today!

The Petition really spells it all out how common sense is not a priority in what Pelosi and others are trying to push through Congress.

    Just Curious - 35W Unity

Posted by Andy on 7th August 2007

I threw up a new poll asking if you are surprised that our Washington politicians are working together for all of Minnesota. I am just curious because they seem to be doing a great job working together. Especially since the Minnesota level politicians (from the left) are trying to divide and conquer.

So far I have to say I am very impressed with how the Federal level Democrats are putting politics aside. their local friends could learn a thing or two from their leadership.

Anyways, take the new poll on the right if you would.

Posted by Andy on 10th July 2007

Scott at Powerline has a great breakdown of the real Keith Ellison that is really worth the look.

As you read it, don’t forget that he’s the next Wellstone in hardcore DFLer’s eyes.

Let’s Not Forget About Representative Douchebag

Posted by Andy on 9th July 2007

Rep. Keith Ellison (D MN5) is heralded by many as a spokesman and such and such, but you can’t take the American hating SOIB out of the America hating end of the pool.

I give you give you Keith Ellison unplugged.

On comparing Sept. 11 to the burning of the Reichstag building in Nazi Germany: “It’s almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is that I’m not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that because, you know, that’s how they put you in the nut-ball box, dismiss you.”

    Via Gary @ LFR

Thank gOD this is not the lesser man who votes on my behalf in Congress.

I sure hope someone plans on running against this douchebag.

If I Had the Time….. I’d Protest For Peace….. For Real

Posted by Andy on 2nd July 2007

…. at CAIR’s Minnesota HQ. (Via Gary @ LFR)

On Tuesday, July 17, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will host a panel discussion at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., entitled “Attacking Islam: Implications for Social Cohesion and U.S. Relations with the Muslim World.”

The panel will address the increasing anti-Muslim rhetoric within the conservative movement in the United States, focusing on the negative impact of such views on religious tolerance in America and on relations with the Muslim world.

Seriously, after hearing about how people planned on protesting the funeral of fallen Iraq heroes and the reports from Putin’s visit to the US, I have to wonder why the peaceniks don’t protest the most violent people and the groups defending them.

Peace would be easy to achieve if those who use violence as a political tool would stop it. that’s Muslm extremists and the groups who defend their actions. Last time I checked, the US simply wanted a stable Iraq, it is Muslim extremists hell bent on holy war with the western cultures and the extinction of who use violence to achieve their political agenda.

Until the people who feel American military presence is reactionary to the violence of Muslims, and thus protest mosques and Muslim groups who provide cover and excuses for the behavior of the terrorists, and flat out refuse to condemn and deal with them, I give them no credit.

Until the Ellison pals at Impeach & Veterans for Peace protest bipartisanly, I think they should receive no merit. (If they really want to “wake people up” they should start with the people who use violence in civilian populations, IE the Muslim terrorists.)  Sorry these are simply Bush hating America bashers, proof is in their selective objection to those who carry out violence civilian populations.

I hate the fact that we have to send troops to fight people, deal with crap at airports and in carrying out commerce and daily life, but until we deal with the real problem IE: a growing faction of Muslims who use violence and loss of life to score political points, (and our porous borders) we will never truly have peace hear or abroad.

There Will Be No Defeat in the US House

Posted by Andy on 2nd May 2007

Nancy Pelosi couldn’t wait to try to force Surrender upon our military. She wasted no time trying to override the Commander in Chief’s veto of the surrender bill. It failed miserably, by 62 votes. (2/3 required) 222 to 203.

That’s a resounding rejection of Pelosi’s attempted power grab. Even 7 Democrats crossed lines to vote with Republicans. Only 2 spineless RINOs crossed to vote for defeat.

Minnesota’s delegation all voted, and followed party lines.

Bachmann, Kline, and Ramstad all voted against overriding the Presidential Veto (in other words, against surrender)

Ellison, Peterson, Oberstar, McCallum, and Walz all voted with Nancy Pelosi for Defeat, retreat, surrender, and tearing up the Constitution.

Minnesotans and Americans better pay close attention to the leader of the Democrat agenda.

Make no mistake, Democrats are committed to ending this war,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif (Source: AP)

This is an important civics lesson opportunity on why Separation of Powers matters so much. Our founders and forefathers were quite aware of the flippant fickleness of politicians I am sure, and the staggered and varied elections of the different branches allows  for checks and balances and sway in “moods”.

Presidents are elected for 4 year terms. The entire House is up every 2 years. Congress approved the action in Iraq a few cycles ago. Congress funds the military. they do not Command it or set foreign policy. For very good reasons. They are too worried about elections, or in other words, keeping their jobs and forgetting about what is right and wrong.

Sure there has been turnover in the House, and a parity made in the Senate, but then, well, the new Democrat controlled Congress can have the balls to cut off funding for the war in Iraq if they think the voters truly gave them that mandate.

    (crickets)

Funny AAA side note: Rep Dennis Kucinich for some reason voted “present” on the veto override. HUH???????

    Impeach Cheney?

Posted by Andy on 24th April 2007

    Dennis Kucinich will try.

APN) ATLANTA – US Rep. Kucinich (D-OH) is about to unveil Articles of Impeachment against Vice President of the United States Dick Cheney at a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Both Kucinich’s Campaign and Congressional Offices have thus far maintained a veil of secrecy about the rationale for the Articles.

Kucinich’s step is certainly bold and substantively appropriate, but it is only one stage in what has been the Congressman’s shifting in political posture towards impeachment as a remedy to the abuses of the Bush Administration.

This, of course, may still not be the end of the shift, because Bush himself still hasn’t been recommended for impeachment yet in this Congressional Session.

Sadly the feverswamp fringe left has figured out the error in thei plans to impeach Bush because they don’t like his policies.

One of the main arguments against is impeaching Bush is regarding the possibility of a President Cheney; however, the bill to impeach Cheney would eliminate this issue.

That’s right. Democrats can’t beat Bush and Cheney at the polls, so they will win the battle through procedure.

Oddly enough, MN’s own feverswamp Rep. Ellison (D MN5) has been meeting with the fringe impeachment crowds here in his MN offices.

And another little tidbit worth noting…. Rep. Betty McCollum (D MN4) supported the Impeachment of Bush in the last session of Congress.

It sure will be interesting if the local media will cover how 2 members of our Congressional Delegation have supported or are considering the Impeachment of Bush and or Cheney.

This should be a message to Congressional Republicans fleeing the Bush admin for the upcoming 2008 election. If you continue to turn your back on your friend in the White House, his polls will fall even further, and you’ll be SOL when you need to have those big money fundraisers. Be careful how far and why you distance yourself, Bush won’t be on the ballot. Just saying.
