Emmer Wins Huge!!!!!! – Well, In My Precinct At Least
Just got back from my first Precinct Caucus in my new District. It was a great turnout. I had the chance to speak FOR Tom Emmer for Governor. I even fielded a couple of questions about him and read his letter.
The Straw Poll for my Precinct was
- Emmer – 15
- Seifert – 3
- Hann – 1
- Sullivan – 1
I also couldn’t keep my mouth shut and am now Precinct Chair.
We’ll have to see if the statewide results for the Straw poll follow this pattern.
PS Carrie wants the world to know that I am not the only one who can’t spell. She found a bunch of misspelled words in the Caucus script.
Oh and one more thing:
Did anyone else’s Precinct not have any other letters but Seifert for Guv? We only had Seifert and Bachmann. Luckily, I emailed myself the content of Emmers, so I read it off my iPhone to the group before we voted. Just curious if this was a glitch or maybe….. My work BPOU also had an issue with a change of Chairs, but luckily Sue Jeffers was on the case.
Just wondering….

Well actually in my precinct we had a letter from Emmer and Herwig. Siefert’s letter was read by an elected offical supporter of his. I was a convener and when we went over the results at the end of night Emmer was leading by 20 – 1. Take that for what it is worth.
Talked to person in charge and they said that they received letters for Siefert’s campaign but had to call multiple times to get a letter from Emmers.
There were Siefert supporters with additional letters in a few of the Precincts, no one organized from Emmers.
Sounds like someone dropped the ball at Tom’s campaign on this.
If no one contacted Andy to read a letter, then something went wrong.
No surprise in your response, maybe Emmer should have taken an ad out on Drudge wit a link to the letter.
I’m told Emmer sent the letter out to all BPOUs. It is up to BPOUs to make sure they present all the letters they receive. I’m curious if this did happen.
I know Hann sent the letter out last night via email.
I luckily realized there was a potential communication problem, possibly even a coordinated one
), so I brought my own. Then again, I happen to know a little more then the average person as a former BPOU chair.
True it is up to the campaign to prepare, but it is also up to the BPOU officials to relay the letters of they did get them. I’m just saying that it would be interesting to see exactly how this played out behind the scenes. Poor planning, or something more establishment-esque.
It was a tie between Siefert and Emmer. It was sad to see Rhonda (anti machine)an Anoka County Commish, Speak for the Machine candidate Siefert. She swayed votes by saying Emmer has no money and no chance to win. We already made that mistake with Pawlenty V Sullivan. This is the perfect time to have a tax cutting pro business Conservative like Emmer.
Oh and if winning by default since no one knows (is told) who else is really running, well, can you say pray for DFL infighting for the radical base all the way through Primary? Cause if they are given the soft glove treatment by the press, that guy that only got low 50’s in the GOP closed election, is going to need far more then the establishment to get elected.
Yeah, Rhonda has fallen prey to the Watchdog pockets of Mr. Hamilton. I fear there is no one on the Anoka Board anymore who doesn’t have someone pulling the strings on them anymore.
I know Rhonda, well I thought I did, she used to be able to see though the insider BS and stand on principles. I guess things have changed.
Sad, very sad.
She has far more important things to do then alienate people that could help her or win more seats on that board. Both her and Robyn West made huge mistakes in this one.
Andy,
If you will put down your conspiracy handbook for a moment and read what I said.
You asked about Tom letters and I gave you the answer.
In a very friendly Tom Emmers BPOU, the chair, who is a big supporter of Tom Emmers mentioned that he had to talk to the campaign multiple times to finally get them to send materials.
It looks like someone at the campaign dropped the ball.
Most candidates will also make sure some in each city (if not each Precinct) has a stack of letter with them to make sure they get there in case for some reason they get lost. Marty had folks in most precincts in our BPOU.
He had none in mine and that person never did check so not a perfect game, but better.
The fact that no one contacted you (or me or anyone else) to ask them to bring along and read the letter is another mistake.
Doesn’t disqualify anyone from being governor, but they need to get their act together for next round.
I told people that Marty probably needed 60% for a complete victory and Tom needed 40% to show that he had momentum to take him to the win.
Looks like Tom is closer to hitting his goal than Marty, so now it will be up to the ground game.
With those numbers, whoever can organize the best will win. Don’t see a lot of undecided in the numbers so it looks like we may be in for a long state convention.
One more comment and maybe others agree. Both candidates letter were great letters to read, but horrible to be read. Way too long. And our Chair was not the most dynamic speaker so it was worse. Both campaigns need to hire a good editor.
As a Dem, I say give us Marty.
Emmer is an ultra conservative and fights for the rights of insurance companies over victims but, no one knows him and he has an opportunity to redefine himself as a nice fuzzy conservative. We’d waste a lot of money trying to expose him for who he is and with a DFL primary, won’t have the time to do it effectively.
However, ol’ Marty can be trusted, no, counted on to shoot himself in the foot while its in his mouth. He can turn more people off faster than a Susan Boyle nude centerfold.
Marty likes the press, sometimes he says some really stupid stuff (stop giving prisoners Jell-O) that is cute and funny but, not serious.
Almost any of the top five DFLers can give him a run for the money.
Emmer is going to cost more money, earlier.
Your best best would have been Pat Awada, but, what do I know?
“I also couldn’t keep my mouth shut and am now Precinct Chair.”
I finally learned my lesson and went with… “1,2,3 Not It!”
Great strategy on Team Emmer’s part: hide the terrible cash on hand numbers until too late so no one knows when they go into vote. Certainly, if people knew that their local state representative has more cash on hand than a state-wide candidate for Governor, they’d consider that gubernatorial candidacy a joke.
Of course there’s also the notion that Seifert was blowing through cash like Pogemiller and Keliher were playing Blackjack with the Revenue Dept. credit card.
So, do you take your Caucus staff salary for this, or does this come out of the campaign? Just curious who is footing the bill. We know the Senate is paying the Deputy Chair of the party, just curious if the House is paying for the Guv’s latest anonogoon.
Greg? Or Ben?
Hmmmmmmm
