Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann (MN-06) today (Thursday, May 14) received the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” from the National Taxpayers Union for the second consecutive year. “It took a lot of courage to withstand political pressure and vote against the bailout last fall, and Congresswoman Bachmann chose to stand up for taxpayers,” National Taxpayers Union President Duane Parde said. “Her strong commitment to lower taxes and limited government is reflected in her Taxpayer Score of 81 percent – among the highest in the entire House of Representatives. Congresswoman Bachmann is truly a ‘Taxpayers’ Friend,’ and we at National Taxpayers Union are proud to present this award to her.”
“The National Taxpayers Union is a critical advocate in Washington for the hard-working overburdened American taxpayer, and I am honored to receive this award,” said Bachmann. “For too long, Washington has been wasting the hard-earned money of America’s families and I look forward to continuing the fight for accountability and reform.”
Congresswoman Bachmann received the award based on an analysis of almost 200 votes in 2008 that demonstrated her commitment to combating a corrupt Washington culture that wastes and abuses taxpayer dollars, said Parde.
