Oberstar Follows the Money – Doesn’t Lead To His MN District During Break
Yesterday Polinaut posted the pending whereabouts for Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation during the Easter break. Congressman Oberstar (D MN8) was the only one whose plans were not originally known. but then an interesting update from his office was added.
This week he is attending a conference on global climate change that is sponsored by the Aspen Institute. One of the panels will specifically addresses how the reauthorization of the surface transportation bill can address climate change issues. As you know, this year Jim will be the primary sponsor of the six year bill that will authorize all federal surface transportation projects for the next six years.
Next week he will be in Houston to meet with the Texas Transportation Institute. This is the think tank at Texas A&M University that released the 2007 Urban Mobility Study which showed that traffic congestion costs Minnesota’s economy $1.1 billion a year in wasted fuel and time.
After that he will travel to Wisconsin to meet with Mr. Obey about transportation funding issues.
I can’t find anything online about the Aspen Ins. Lunacrat conference being in MN’s 8th District.
So, in other words, Congressman Oberstar of Minnesota’s 8th District, via a cushy home in Maryland where he hangs his hat, isn’t even going to be coming to Minnesota during the Congressional Easter break? He’s not going overseas on trade or diplomatic missions like some of his MN colleagues. He’s not doing townhalls and traveling his District like the others from our Delegation.
Nope, he’s going to liberal think tanks and left leaning conferences across the country where the lobbyists will be out in full force so he can brush up for his push to have Washington take control of any and all “surface” movement in the US. (hint: That’s travel and shipping, even trucks)
Nice. Can’t even stumble home to see the people who sent him to Congress over the break. Dat a boy Jim!
As I said, he doesn’t call MN home, Maryland is home according to his very flattering Wiki page.
Oberstar resides with his wife, Jean, in his home in Potomac, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. and maintains his boyhood residence in Chisholm, Minnesota.
If only he could “maintain” a relationship with the District full of people he is supposed to be representing. Then again, judging by his goals of urging tax increases on gas and changing the travel behavior and living habits of Americans, he is representing the people he has decided to spend Easter break with.
