Words To Live By
"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Is Obama’s Media Honeymoon Over?

This is our President.

“I came down here to visit. I didn’t come down here — this is what happens. I can’t end up visiting you guys and shaking hands if I am going to grilled every time I come down here,” the president said.

He is kidding right? This wasn’t a media junket. These are not your fans or campaign contributors. OK, they probably did a lot to help you get elected, and probably did donate. But this celebrity persona – I am an idol worship before my greatness – stuff has to end. You’re President now Mr. Obama. You’re no longer just Barrack Obama, you are now the President of the United States.

Your party turned the media into attack dogs of the administration, and made it question every single thing it did. Guess what, you’re now the administration and the media is going to try to inform the American people about what is going on, and yes, dig up examples of inconsistency, hypocrisy, and questionable judgement. That is what they are supposed to do!

Thou shalt not challenge the One.

This is not acceptable behavior for the President of the United States to one of his own citizens or its media. I can’t stress enough that a President who is going to stare down a reporter for asking a question of an administration that seems to be throwing everything out the window in its first days behind the wheel of America, is a man who is trying to hide what he is doing.

He almost seems to be sending the message to the press that if you report on the changes I am making and what I am doing, that they will have their access cut off.

In other words, the President just sent a signal to the press that they better report only what Obama wants reporter, or else.

Um, totalitarian much?

not defending his action necessarily… but this wasn’t a press question & answer, it was a scheduled meet & greet. there’s a time for questions and a time for personal meetings imo.

Bush was super combative to the White House press corps throughout, so i sure hope Obama is a lot better than that in time.

  2. montanaliberal says:

also… just read now that the reporters were SPECIFICALLY told this was just a meet & greet and to not ask any questions, but to save them for the press conference that was held later in the day.

  3. Andy says:

    So……

“I am the President, and no you can only ask questions when i tell you you can ask questions.”

Sure is transparent! Not totalitarian at all.

Something to hide there Commander in Transparency?

Combative? Or just tired of it being like he was standing in inquisition at a DFL convention?

  4. montanaliberal says:

still more transparent than the previous administration at this point (granted it was only DAY THREE)

like i said, we’ll see, if it continues during actual press conferences, i’ll agree with you. so far i’m not a huge fan of Gibbs.
