GOP Of The Future? - Schlepping For Votes

The I’m running for President in 2012 club is meeting and trying to craft the party into a mold that suits them. I’m talking of course about the National Republican Governors meeting and how they are being given the sole responsibility to fix the party. The common message I am hearing is that the Republican party needs to learn how to buy into demographics in order to compete in elections.
Oh sure, they throw in the we can’t lose our principles argument, but they don’t really mean that. I watched a little on of this last night during a bout of insomnia and I am just terrified that a couple of Governors with national aspirations will get to redefine the Republican message.
Frankly some of these Governors are to blame for the decay of the party recently. We’ve watered down our message and began to barter with special interests and demographics already. We gave up the real way to save this party because it just didn’t poll well.
That is to convince Americans far and wide that socialism is a disease and that traditional Republican conservatism (Reaganism) is the best for all Americans. The second we showed that we’d be willing to sell out one of our principles to politically buy into a demographic (think Amnesty, Education, K Street Project) we exposed that some of our own leaders don’t really believe in conservative principles or the power of them.
Minnesota’s Governor Tim Pawlenty is being desperately include in the 2012 shortlist and given a soapbox to help reshape the party. Frankly that scares the begeezers out of me. He is the last person that should be given a seat at the table of the Republican rebuilding. I know that will upset many, but we cannot commit to 4 years of the national Republican message being watered down for the personal gains of a handful of people. And frankly Pawlenty is too quick to pull up tent stakes on sore core issues in my opinion. Um, he jumped on board the Maverick McCain’s camp and said he was perfect….. nuff said!
The rebuilding of this party cannot be done by a handful of people. And it sure as heck can’t be done by people who need the party to reflect their personal brand for a 2012 run.
We cannot repeat the mistakes that have gotten us into this mess and if the people who are going to rebuild this party can fit in one room, we will continue to fail in elections.
I am just going to add a couple thoughts.
A traditional marriage amendment passed in California. In liberal mecca!!!!!
The road to the Republican recovery does not lead through the US Treasury.
