Dump Cole – Save The NRCC
Wanna know how screwed up the Congressional Republicans are?Â
So let’s get this straight: decisions on where and how much NRCC money is deployed are made not by the committee or its chairman or staff but by a “unit†of political consultants who operate outside the realm of the committee and may very well have their own interests in certain candidates who do get money.Â
Yeah, they too believe in letting strategists and consultants set the tone for the party.Â
Rather than work with the grassroots and build a machine, they pay people to sound smart who have driven this damn party into minorities across the country. Their ineptitude is trickling down and killing this party. Â
No wonder this party is in the gutter right now.Â
Will these people ever learn? Â Â
Ugggghhh, so sick of these hacks right now.
9 more days, then we’ll deal with these clowns.

Actually, I like the idea that smart, dedicated people are coordinating and managing the campaigns. You and I certainly don’t have the time, energy, or even ability. My only complaint is that these smart people seem to be unaware of what “business” they are in. In 2006, we mounted a tremendous effort to “get out the vote,” only to discover that we had failed utterly and complete to “get out the message.” THEY looked at elections as a simple matter of getting enough people doing these mechanical things, completely ignoring that they were not the RIGHT things!
This year, they’re at work again, trying to get us excited about GOTV, when all they offer us by way of message is the negative. As I’ve told the Coleman campaign for months, “If all you want is for me to not vote for Al Franken, I can do that by staying home.” We don’t need to fire these folks, we just need to get these smart people a REAL education on how to win elections. Convince people that you have the right solutions– the ones they already agree with– and you won’t need GOTV.
Let’s not limit it to the NRCC either. (I know Andy’s interested in reforming the GOP everywhere it’s found.) Let’s also talk about how we can transform our communications capabilities into being a weapon against the forces of evil, aka the DFL. It’s also important for the RPM to figure out (a) what it’s policy priorities are & (b) what underlying principles will drive our policymaking.
Playing gotcha won’t help if we don’t have a message.
J,
That’s what I call “quota based politics”
