It seems this is an indictment of President Bush (past 8 years) and the Republican Congress (12 of past 14 years). No question they were in charge when all of this was put in play and allowed to occur. The Bush-appointed SEC chairman -- a former Republican Congressman -- didn't oversee what was going on.

Essentially, the aforementioned politicians (the government we elected) had the "freedom" to stop this and didn't police their Wall Street buddies who took reckless risks - and now we have to bail them all out -- to the tune of nearly a trillion dollars -- or we will do further damage to our economy.

As for this doozy in your screed above: "Our fellow Americans will soon realize that that if they let politicians and government go unchecked, they will harness power beyond what any human should have."

This just in -- We are the government. You can't say otherwise - and we left the people we elected unchecked - and the people we elected left the Wall Street Greed Gang unchecked. The people we elected to be in charge of the government over the past decade or so didn't do their jobs. We can and should vote them out, if we think they've been "unchecked" and "harnessed" too much power. It's not "us vs. the bad guys" or "freedom vs. corruption" as you cast it. It's us paying for the mistakes of a political philosophy that says government should get out of the way -- even of unbridled greed. Now, we are paying the price.

It's unfortunate that a lot of good elected officials now have to pay the price and support the Bush-Paulsen Plan to clean up a mess of their making.
