Retreat On Cornerstone Issue For Dems - Oil Lives!
Posted by Andy on September 25th, 2008
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, one of the things that you know every single Democrat candidate, politician, and party activist holds as one of their most important missions is ending oil exploration and use. Oh sure, they may be rarities in the ranks, but nothing vocal or meaningful. It’s more of a don’t ask don’t tell thing at party meetings.
Democrats control Congress. Meaning, they set the agenda and they can pass anything they want. But due to the reality of their policies playing out and Americans getting pinched at the pump, Congressional Democrats have surrendered the battle to blockade American made Energy. They waved the white flag on one of their core issues, despite having Congressional majorities.
Analysis: Democrats absorb a defeat on drilling
[...]
After vowing to protect a quarter-century ban on drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, Democrats on Wednesday moved through the House a stopgap spending bill that allows the offshore drilling moratorium — approved each year by Congress for the last 26 years — to expire at the end of this month.
We’re not out of the Energy Independence woods yet. The Democrats will let their Practice squad step in to blockade any new drilling prospects with their lawyers and special interest groups who loathe the entire oil industry. The 7 to 10 year timeline that is often spoken about is not simply due to infrastructure construction, it is because of the liberal groups and lawyers plug up progress with lawsuits and bureaucratic nonsense before that can even take place.
There is more work to be done on this issue. It is far from over for those of us who believe in true American Energy Independence. Bean counters and liberal special interests still have the power to block domestic oil production, keep us dependent oil from dark unstable corners of the world, and keep prices high and unstable. We need majorities in Congress and an Energy friendly President in order to change the red tape nightmare that still exists to drill and refine.
We can get cheap energy faster, we just need majorities in Congress in order to do it. Speaker Pelosi needs to be former Speaker. Majority Leader Reid needs to be former Leader. We need the gavels, we need the votes.
We have until November 4th.
Let’s go!
