  • An RF Rebuttal - Worth The Wait

Posted by Andy on September 2nd, 2008

I got the following email from a friend. It is in response to this post of mine.

    Hi Andy,

I have to take issue with you on your posting, “A $50 Million Waste??”.

I have never been a big John McCain fan as you know, but I do have to disagree with your take on the cancelling of some RNC events.

Whether or not we agree with it, Katrina is widely viewed as a major failure for the Bush administration. Even though “W” was not directly in control of the event, his administration was still responsible for the actions of FEMA.  Like it or not, being accountable means we acknowledge we were in command at the time of the failure.

The Democrats are saying that God is intervening through hurricane Gustav.  I could not agree more.

But what the Democrats do not understand is that God he has granted John McCain the opportunity to appear Presidential. McCain has established himself as a take charge leader who puts the country ahead of politics - now is that consistent with his campaign message or what?

McCain has the opportunity of appearing calm, cool, and in command of the situation.  This is his opportunity to shine and show the country he can handle a natural disaster.  All Obama and the left wing lunacrats can do is criticize and play the blame game.  Who will come out looking better in the eyes of the public, McCain the Commander in Chief or Obama the candidate?

I’d give up a $50 Million dollar convention to win the Presidency any day.

Also, this gives McCain an unparallel chance to re-write the whole convention schedule.

You know I support Bush-Cheney, and am still one of the few people out there to still have their bumper sticker on my car.  I will keep it there until the day he leaves office. I believe we owe him that for all the crap he has taken.

That being said, Bush’s approval rating is in the tank, and Cheney’s is even lower. Aside from giving a sitting President and Vice President the respect they deserve, I have believed it was a huge mistake to have them speak at the convention. Hurricane Gustav has given McCain the opportunity to shift the discussion off Bush-Cheney and onto himself and Sara Palin.

Quite frankly, what really matters at the convention are the speeches given by the President and Vice President nominee.  Look at how the Clinton’s stole the show from Obama. In my opinion, that really hurt Obama.  McCain has the opportunity to focus the spotlight right where it needs to be - on him and Sara Palin. He is catching a huge break here.

McCain and his staff have done an excellent job preparing counter messages before and during the DNCC, by the way they have handled the vice presidential pick, and the strategy adjustment they made to select Sara Palin.  I have not felt any excitement for eh McCain campaign until he announced Sara Palin as his running mate, and I do not believe I am alone. This is wonderful for the party, and the country.

I agree with the Democrats that God is getting involved in the election, but I believe he is instead creating opportunities for McCain to win this.

Let’s cut McCain and his team some slack and let them do their thing.
