Diesel Drops Below $4, But …….
Posted by Andy on August 15th, 2008
Driving home from Keegs last night I happened to spot diesel for $3.99 at a local station. We all know that US House Republicans have been making waves on the Drill Here front. But so far SOTH Pelosi and Democrats have blocked all attempts to lift Congressional bans on more domestic energy.
Even though we have yet to be freed up from the stranglehold the Democrats and liberal environmentalists have put on the key to economic growth and cheap energy for American families, oil prices have been plummeting.
So the Democrats are right, and if we just use less (conserve) then we can lower prices!
Oil falls below $114 on slowing economies
No! Prices are falling because of lower demand. But the lower demand was due to high prices. Now that prices are going down, Americans will no longer painfully conserve. They will start to do the things that the high prices forced them not to.
They will no longer conserve out of necessity. We will go back to living our free lives the way we want to. We have to. Our economy cannot grow if we continue to starve our entertainment needs. If all we do is work, and not play, it will have disastrous effects on our tourism and manufacturing sectors. No more trips and vacations means no one staying at resorts, hotels, or visiting museums. No more trip to the lake means no more building boats, PWCs, or fishing gear.
When that happens, people will be laid off. We will see even more economic down turn.
Don’t buy into the false calm that doing nothing about domestic energy solved the problem. The problem hasn’t been solved, and there is a looming problem as prices fall.
We will begin using oil in masse again soon, and unless we have an adequate supply, we’re going to see prices spike again. We do need more domestic energy. We have enough energy at our disposal that we could be the world’s leading exporter. We just need Congress to cut the red tape and stop standing in the way of the free market.
Supply and Demand, not Tax and Spend.
Oh and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R MN6) is heading back to DC today to join the revolution on the House floor to get Pelosi off the book tour and back to work to solve the American Energy crisis.
