But What Happens When You Run Out Of Fishes?

In a post earlier this week(on True North, I pointed out how Democrat Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi is setting the agenda in Congress and allowing zero chance that something she doesn’t approve of gets to even see the light of day on the floor of the US House.
Anyone who actually has to get themselves from point A to point B (hint: that’s all of us out here in America) is feeling the pain at the pump and is demanding something be done. Because we’ve surrendered so much of our power over the economy and markets to Congress over recent history, we’re held hostage to the political whims of politicians and their special interest friends’ agendas, not what is best for the Country.
Well, Pelosi is once again flexing her muscle as “the Decider” of what Congress can even debate. In her latest display of being out of touch but not giving a dang, she is promising to deny any chance of true energy independence before Congress’s recess. There will not be more oil in Pelosi’s America.
For weeks, pressure has been mounting in Congress to approve more domestic oil drilling, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has held the line, using her power to block a vote on offshore drilling.President Bush has made almost daily calls for Democratic leaders to take action. House GOP leaders, citing a new poll showing that a slim majority of Californians now favor offshore drilling, issued a release Thursday saying “even (Pelosi’s) own California neighbors oppose her efforts to block new drilling far off American coasts.” GOP lawmakers are so disgruntled they’re urging Bush to deny Congress its August break by calling a special session on energy.
Polls show Americans understand market economics and want us to drill more here at home to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Heck even just the debate over how badly we need to start using our own Domestic Oil supplies has lowered oil prices and gasoline at the pump (not diesel yet though, grrrrr!)
Americans and common sense Republicans like Rep. Michele Bachmann (R MN6) have been pushing Pelosi to just give us a chance to lower Energy prices, but she is steadfast in her position that we suffer from the high prices. She doesn’t really want us using oil and these high prices are helping her agenda move along. High prices have forced Americans, against their will, to drive less and change the way we live.
Local media has been dreadful at asking Democrat incumbents in Congress if they share the obstructionist view of Pelosi or if they would be willing to allow debate over domestic oil supplies. All they do is mention the talking point plan of releasing a few one time drops from the Strategic Reserve. They say that extra supply will lower prices some.
But it is a one time influx of supply that will have no lasting effects and puts taxpayers on the hook to replace the oil eventually in the future. It is a perfect example of the difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Just look at the Stimulus Checks most of us got this year. Even Democrats knew that Government needed to give back some money to taxpayers so we could cycle through the economy.
The Democratic Scheme:
Democrats chose a one time rebate check. The affect has been largely unnoticeable, and since it was one time money, its chances of pumping up our economy are over. Not everyone got one and the bureaucracy struggled in sending them out and the extra money was trickled into the economy over several months. The affects were marginal at best and the debt spending is going to cost us more in the future to cover the deficit.
The Republican Solution:
In 2001 & 2003 when our economy was slumping, Republicans pushed for tax cuts. They got them and for every single month since, Americans of all pay levels, had more money to spend as they saw fit, after every single paycheck. Economic growth was strong for years as there was a constant supply of more money in the hands of the users of the economy. (if they had only controlled spending at the same time, we’d still have growth)
Is it better to give a hungry man a fish, or to teach him how to fish?
The Democrats running to be rubberstamps for the Obstructionista Pelosi had better be careful. The public is waking up and learning that the problems with our energy market and economy lead back to Congress. And gee, for some reason things really got bad these last 2 years.
Hmmmm, I wonder what happened last year that would have had such drastic effects on things? Oh yeah, Americans thought they voted for “change” in the 2006 elections. And look what kind of change they got. If Pelosi keeps it up, voters will vote for ‘Change’ again this election. Only this time it will be real change and common sense conservatives and Republicans will win the majority back.
Speaker Bachmann, now that would be great. We’d actually get to keep our lightbulbs not to mention reduce our dependncy on foreign oil.
