Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Change We Can Work For – Oh Yes We Can!!!

You will have no excuses this year if you think you can’t do something to bring common sense and conservative values back to the Minnesota State Capital. The Minnesota House Republicans held a press conference yesterday where they announced that for the first time ever, they will have a candidate in every single Minnesota State House race.

So if you see Federal level (less than staunch conservative) candidates irking you on immigration, energy, pork, entitlements., or envirolooniness, you will have another option for volunteer efforts. You can help at the grassroots level and get Republicans back in the majority of the Minnesota House. Every single District across that State will have someone you can and probably should support. In the event that maybe you have problems with your candidate (yes, there are still some bad eggs, I admit), you’ll have someone else close by you can volunteer for in a neighboring District.

I also feel we have the best slate of US House candidates this year. We would have one of the most conservative delegations in Washington if we can buck the waves and take a majority of our Congressional seats. If the stars align and we all get out there and work our butts off, we could actually do it.

I’m growing tired of people saying Republicans can’t win. I hear it all the time, from grassroots activists to the cream of the crop strategists and powerbrokers at GOP central planning. “This is a blue state”

Bravo Sierra!!!!

I’m tired of people thinking we’ve lost before a single vote is counted. I’m tired of the pollsters arguing that we have to water down our message and concede the notion of limited Government. Have you seen what the DFL is offering? They campaign sounding a lot like us most of the time, but….. Just look around at what the liberals have done to this state and nation in just over a year and a half after they swindled they hoodwinked the voters in 2006.

Change? What change? Government has grown exponentially. Accountability is not even an after thought. They think they can dictate to us how we should live our lives and that we will just pay for their fringe leftist agenda, through taxes and higher costs for goods and services.

Not only do we have to stop them from gaining more seats to implement even more of their socialist agenda, but we have to win back majorities. Only a Republican majority can lower the burden of Government. Only the Republicans can lower taxes and stop the exponential growth of Government. Only Republicans will increase energy supplies and cut the red tape to increase energy production.

I admit, it won’t happen overnight and yes, it is going to be very hard work. But we can either work our fingers to the bone dialing for voter ID and wear out the soles of our shoes door knocking this Summer, or we can do it for years in the salt mines trying to make enough money to have enough left over for ourselves to raise our families after the liberals massively increase the size, scope, and function of government and taxes.

If we all do everything we can to educate our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors on what it really means to be conservative and why voting Republican is the best thing to do for the long term health and wellness of this state as a whole, there is a chance. If we get the grassroots groundswell going now, we can change the attitude of Minnesotans, and who knows, maybe we can get back to where were were, just 4 years ago before the 2004 election. We had 4 of the 5 state wide offices. A 4-4 split in US House seats. A US Senator. A huge majority in the MN House and just 4 or 5 seats from the majority in the MN Senate.

We were damn close to turning this state Red and I refuse to believe that the state I was born in and love from my inner heart is the real bastion of socialism in America. I refuse to believe that the majority of Minnesotans want to surpass California on the fringe left wackiness meter.

Oh sure, the media and Democrats portray that as fact. Heck even the Republican leaders and talking heads refuse to call that fiction. The longer we all, as conservatives, just sit back and let the, dare I say, Commies, gather more and more power and bigger majorities, the worse Minnesota will get.

Not only can you get out there and work for Republicans in every single District this year, you have to. You cannot sit this one out. You don’t have to help the RINOs. Lord knows I am not going to. But you do have to fight the good fight in the conservative vs. liberal battle of ideas. And this year we have scores of candidates who are already fighting the battle, just waiting for us to join them.

Things will only get worse if you start to believe that conservatism is dead and “the era of small government is over”. Our chances of saving Minnesota from the death grip of the Democrats will be impossible to reach if you all run around spitting on the grave of bad Republicans past. Most of them are gone or will be this November. Time to move on and correct those mistakes with action.

If some of the liberal Republicans still around haven’t gotten the memo yet, you don’t have to let them define what it means to be a good Republican. Some of them are bad, and I’m telling you that you don’t have to help them. But you do have to help the others who are good conservatives. And this year you have never had a better opportunity to get enthused and get involved to actually affect the change in a conservative way.

The agenda and rhetoric from the Democrats should be all the motivation you need to put down the cheetos and cigars, get off the couch, and get to work for good principled conservatives. There are more good conservative candidates running as Republicans this year then I can remember.

Ed Matthews, Barb Davis White, Brian Davis, Reps. Bachmann & Kline are all incredible conservatives who with a ton of grassroots work and enough help could do it. Oh I know that people refuse to give any chance in the 4th and the 5th, but with a real commitment and enough determination, there could be a day rather soon when a Republican could knock off the fringe left America hatin socialists McCullum & Ellison. It may take a race or 2, but if they get the support and enthusiasm from a team of volunteers, we may actually get a candidate willing to run more than once. Sometimes, it takes a few tries.

I can’t even begin to name all the solid conservatives in the Minnesota House, and I don’t want to exclude any of them. But I can tell you that there are 68 Republicans running for the Minnesota House this year that all of us as conservatives would be 100% happy with fighting for our beliefs on the floor of the Minnesota House. 68 is the magic number to get the majority back folks. We held that many seats just 2 short years ago before the bloodbath of 2008.

Democrats won the majority they have today in the last election. They took advantage of the mistakes Republicans made over the last few years and capitalized. They ran as conservatives and guess what, voters liked what they heard. Well, have you looked at what the Democrats have done with their majorities? Congressional approval is at an all time low of 9%. Nine stinking percent!

In the Minnesota House Maggie Kelliher has put the Legislature on the fast track to tax increase and social engineering. Billions in new taxes, pennies in real solutions from the majority of Minnesotans. They got a bunch of their Christmas wish list gifts, like LRT, smoking bans, envirolunancy, and wage increases. And the average Minnesota got stuck with false promises and an IOU not worth the paper it is printed.

Enough with the defeatism already. Enough with the resentment for bad Republicans of the past. Rise up and get to work to change that. You have to make sure any ills you have from the past don’t get repeated. Oh sure, you can sit back stoking that stoggie on the patio sipping on that adult beverage bicthing and moaning about that guy from last election, but you have no one to blame but yourself if Democrats gather even more freedom and liberty squashing power when they are sworn in for the next sessions of Congress or the Legislature.

You do have the opportunity to do something to stop them. You wanted the remaining Republicans to fight the good fight and prove that the GOP wasn’t simply Democrat-like and you begged for good candidates after 2006, well here they are. You wanted something to get out there to work for, well you got it. Most of those Republican candidates have heard the message from the base and are ready to fight shoulder to shoulder with you to stop the liberals from destroying this country.

Those candidates stepped up to the plate and put their butts on the front lines. Now it is our job to get in the trenches behind them and help them out. We can do it. I refuse to sit back and watch conservatism and the Republican party die. I don’t care if the real leaders of the party think I am nuts. I don’t care if you think I am nuts. Someone has to step up and give us all the swift kick in teh butt to go fight and try to save Minnesota, America, and the conservative ideals this country was founded on.

You sitting back and doing nothing will not change why you are unhappy with the state of politics in America or Minnesota. I’m unwilling to watch this country circle the drain that leads to the sea of socialism. Yes we can take this state and country back, and frankly we have to save this country and our beloved state from the destruction Democrats have in mind.

    BRAVO ANDY!!! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE!!!

In February, 2007, a group of legislators met with a group of us from the St. Cloud BPOU. Our message to these legislators was simple:

Fight for solid conservative principles on issue after issue & we’ll have your backs.

They did that that entire session. I even adopted a state legislator who turned out to be a rock star freshman named Steve Gottwalt.

Like Andy said, there’s a big batch of good conservatives worthy of our shoe leather, our $$$ & our moral support this year. More importantly, each of us has a responsibility to each other. Staying home & whining about how imperfect our candidates are is shirking our responsibility so it’s time to affect change.

I recently told a major St. Cloud businessman that “It’s not like people woke up in November, 2006, & said that ‘I’m tired of our legislators spending my taxes too efficiently & in too limited of amounts.” I also told him that voters didn’t vote for billions of $$$ of tax increases in 2006.

    Carpe Diem–Sieze the Day.

Now’s the time to spread this message of liberty, prosperity & solutions. God knows the other side won’t preach that gospel. It’s time to lock & load & change the direction of politics in this Minnesota.

    Let’s get it done.

I’ve been working parades with John Kline and I walked with Mark Buesgins (sp?) a couple weeks back. I’ll be working the lakeville parade with John Kline (his home town) this weekend too.
If Kline has a big crowd working I may defect and pass out lit and stickers for Buesgins.
    Both first rate guys.

    McVain?
I see zero grassroots support for the guy. This will be my fourth parade, and I see the left out there, DFL and Obambi people working these local events but no sign of the maverick.

As you say we need to start bottom up and push real conservatives.
