  • Remembering Minnesota’s 1st

Posted by Andy on June 30th, 2008

Looking for a good way to celebrate the 4th of July? Why not start the holiday off by remembering those who have made this country possible.

The Stillwater Guard Civil War Reenactors will hold a grave rededication ceremony for Color Corporal John Densmore at Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater on Wednesday July 2, 2008 at 6 p.m.

Corporal Densmore was wounded five times during the famed “Charge of the 1st Minnesota” at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. The rededication ceremony is held to commemorate the 145th anniversary of Densmore’s participation in that battle.  He died July 5, 1879.

More information on the life of John Densmore can be found at http://1stminnesota.net/SearchResults.php3?ID=0144

Participants will be lining up at 5:30 p.m. the cemetery’s main entrance, and marching to the gravesite at 5:55 p.m.
