Its Official, McCain Is A Lunacrat – And I Told You So
As predicted right here on RF, it took just 2 days for McCain to sound like a nanny state leftist wealth redistributor who wouldn’t know free market capitalism if it slapped him up side the head.Â
WASHINGTON – Record high prices for gasoline probably won’t drop any lower before the November election, Republican John McCain said Wednesday.
“I don’t think it’s going much lower, and it could go higher,” McCain said on NBC’s “Today Show.” “I don’t think so, not when you’ve got a finite supply, basically, and a cartel controlling it.”
McCain said oil companies should “absolutely” return some profits to consumers. “And they should be embarking on research and development that will pay off in reducing our dependence on foreign oil,” he said.
“The point is, oil companies have got to be more participatory in alternate energy, in sharing their profits in a variety of ways, and there is very strong and justifiable emotion about their profits,” McCain said.
We couldn’t have a worse Republican candidate at this point in history. Oh sure I know the pundits and strategists all love how moderate McCain is, but it is becase of Republican moderates and liberal Democrats “reaching across the isle to GET STUFF DONE” that we are in the energy mess that we are today in America.Â
Years of pandering with handouts, taxpayer subsidies for junk science, and barriers to cheap reliable domestic energy have left us behind the curve and unable to increase our domestic supplies and expand our production of gas, electric, and heating fuels. We, the citizens and taxpayers are forced to pay for the mistakes (and reelection campaign paybacks) of Washington.Â
And here we have a so-called Republican Presidential candidate who sounds like he took a page out of Karl Marx’s playbook.Â
“Share their profits”????Â
I doubt he’d be so forceful in demanding that his wife’s beer empire share its profits with its competition. Or worse force her to pay for increases AA and health awareness programs to get people to stop drinking.Â
Anyways, back to reality here, and I hope someone in Washington reads this.Â
So according to McCain, rather than try to lower the prices of energy for Americans, by doing what we can here domestically, you’re going to say screw it, they’ll have to pay more and hold us hostage for junk science energy that has yet to be invented or perfected for mass production.Â
Drill here, drill now, pay less. Why not try to solve this problem created by Washington blowhards and special interests by increasing Domestic supplies and resources? What could it hurt?Â

“In the past few months, American workers, consumers, and businesses have experienced a sudden and dramatic rise in gasoline prices. In some parts of the country, gasoline costs as much as $4 per gallon. Some politicians claim that the way to reduce gas prices is by expanding the government’s power to regulate prices and control the supply of gasoline. For example, the House of Representatives has even passed legislation subjecting gas station owners to criminal penalties if they charge more than a federal bureaucrat deems appropriate. Proponents of these measures must have forgotten the 1970s, when government controls on the oil industry resulted in gas lines and shortages. It was only after President Reagan lifted federal price controls that the gas lines disappeared.
Instead of imposing further restraints on the market, Congress should consider reforming the federal policies that raise gas prices. For example, federal and state taxes can account for as much as a third of what consumers’ pay at the pump. The Federal Government’s boom-and-bust monetary policy also makes consumers vulnerable to inflation and to constant fluctuations in the prices of essential goods such as oil. It is no coincidence that oil prices first became an issue shortly after President Nixon unilaterally severed the dollar’s last link to gold.
Basic economics says that when government restricts the supply of a good, the price will increase. Yet Congress continues to reject simple measures that could increase the supply of oil. For example, Congress refuses to allow reasonable, environmentally sensitive, offshore drilling. Congress also refuses to remove the numerous regulatory hurdles that add to the prohibitively expensive task of constructing new refineries. Building a new refinery requires billions of dollars in capital investment. It can take several years just to obtain the necessary federal permits. Even after the permits are obtained, construction of a refinery may still be delayed or even halted by frivolous lawsuits. It is no wonder that there has not been a new refinery constructed in the United States since 1976.
Last year, in order to provide the American people with relief from high oil prices, I introduced the Affordable Gas Price Act (H.R. 2415). This legislation protects the American people from gas price spikes by suspending the federal gas tax whenever the national average gas price exceeds $3.00 per gallon. The Affordable Gas Price Act also expands the supply of gasoline by repealing the federal moratorium on offshore drilling, including in the ANWR reserve in Alaska . HR 2415 also provides tax incentives and protection from nuisance lawsuits for those seeking to build new refineries. Finally, HR 2415 authorizes a federal study on the link between our nation’s monetary policy and the price of oil.
The free market can meet the American people’s demand for a reliable supply of gasoline as long as government does not distort the market through excessive taxation and regulation. Therefore, Congress should lower gas prices by pursuing an agenda of low taxes, regulatory relief, and sound money by passing legislation such as my Affordable Gas Act.”

And to speak to your comment I would ask, a world with out a US presence would be an un-free and hostile world where evil men would run wild and control our markets.
If we still lived in the early 20th Century and the oceans protected not just our borders, but our markets, Paul would be a perfect fit. But 100 years after Isolationism was a viable option, it is time to wake up and smell the 21st century and realize we are an integral part of a global market.

I have a truck with a 42 gallon tank that I us to pull 6000lbs of car and trailer when I drag race… I most likely will take the first part of the year off due to fuel costs. When I see McCain and Coleman embracing global warming Ive come to realize that conservatives have no voice in this election.
