  • Fiscal Conservative Test For Members Of Congress

Posted by Andy on May 21st, 2008

President Bush vetoed the Pork Farm bill this morning.

WASHINGTON - President Bush vetoed the $300 billion farm bill on Wednesday, calling it a tax increase on regular Americans at a time of high food prices in the face of a near-certain override by Congress.

It was the 10th veto of Bush’s presidency. But since it passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities, his action will likely be overridden.

The president believes the legislation is fiscally irresponsible and gives away too much money to wealthy farmers, yet his criticism rang hollow with lawmakers from both parties who voted for increased crop subsidies, food stamps for the poor and other goodies to help their districts in an election year.

Both Houses passed it with large majorities, but will they override? They will try so today according to radio reports.

What will Sen. Coleman do? I’d say to give him a call, but what’s the point? Sustaining the veto would be the fiscal conservative thing to do, and he has been running around the state saying he would vote to override.

How much longer must the America taxpayers be forced to pay for other people’s pet projects before we throw the bums out of Washington who don’t under stand that we are not ATMs and that pork is a major part of the corruption we loathe?

Rep. Bachmann (R MN6) & Ramstad (R MN3) both voted against the Bill. Rep. Kline voted for it along with Sen. Coleman. All Democrats voted for it, naturally.

Will Congress place another $300 billion of debt load for handouts and subsidies on the backs of Americans, or will common sense and fiscal sanity prevail. Time will tell. I for one think it is time to return our Government back to being run by the people.

    Can you say term limits?

PS: I still haven’t gotten my deficit spending stimulus check yet. Maybe if I was a farmer or had a K Street lobbyist it wouldn’t have taken 5 months getting around to placate me.

Ah, I thought Rep Kline was supposed to be one of those conservative heros. Time to throw him out too. Go Sarvi, I guess.

      Can you say term limits?

No, not really sure how that would help. It would help to elect more Republicans so that the Republican leadership in congress would have more control, but term limits does not achieve that goal. People could still vote for Democrats every election even with term limits.

I still haven’t gotten my deficit spending stimulus check yet.

I got mine. And spent it. Not on gas, of course. I last filled my tank at $3.59 and it cost roughly $35 to fill the tank. I spend around $100 on gas now a month.
