  • From The INBOX: Yecke Appointed Dean

Posted by Andy on April 25th, 2008

Dr. Cheri Pierson Yecke was appointed Dean of Harding University in Arkansas.

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Cheri Pierson Yecke is joining the faculty and administration at Harding University beginning this summer. She will serve in the capacity of Dean of Graduate Programs and will also serve as an associate professor in the College of Education. In her role as dean, Dr. Yecke will serve as coordinator of admissions, catalogs, marketing, and other core policies for all graduate programs. This is basically a new position to assist Dr. Larry Long in helping coordinate all graduate programs as this area has grown dramatically in recent years.

Most recently, Dr. Yecke has served as Chancellor of K-12 Education in the state of Florida where she worked for Governor Jeb Bush. She has also served as Commissioner of Education in Minnesota, Secretary of Education in Virginia, and Director of Teacher Quality at the U.S. Department of Education. I believe that she will help us strengthen our national and international presence at the graduate level in particular.

She received her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Hawaii, a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctoral degree in gifted education from the University of Virginia. She was an award-winning classroom teacher for 20 years before moving into the education policy arena. She has published two books, numerous articles, and has given numerous presentations across the nation.

    Congrats to Dr. Yecke.
