The Governor took some fat out of the binding bill with his veto pen. And he may have finally awoken to the reality that we can’t fritter money away on worthless feel good billion dollar boondoggles.
he Central Corridor light rail line is the highest profile veto casualty, but it’s not the only one involving transit.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty also vetoed design money for light rail along Interstate 494 in Bloomington, the Southwest Corridor in Eden Prairie, and light rail or bus rapid transit along the Robert Street Corridor.
He also vetoed money for passenger rail between the Twin Cities and Duluth and high-speed rail between St. Paul and Chicago.

Gov. Pawlenty is stopping in St. Cloud this afternoon for a ceremonial signing of the trimmed down bill. I’ll have a full report late this afternoon.
On another note, I get Tarryl Clark’s weekly e-letter updates. I have a post up on that here. I’d wondered if Tarryl & Pogie had instructed Keith Langseth to keep the bill higher than the limit. Here’s what Tarryl said in her own words:
I know you are aware I worked very closely with Senate Capital Investment Committee members and Chair Keith Langseth, the House (particular thanks to Reps. Haws and Hosch) and the Administration to make sure all of these important projects remained in the bill.
Now that she’s admitted that she “worked very closely with…Keith Langseth”, that’s akin to saying that she didn’t oject to his being fiscally irresponsible, right?
