Silly Citizens, Your Property Taxes Equal What They Want To Spend

The PiPress has a story about Ramsey County property owners being puzzled why their property taxes are going up when the housing values are going down. It is really quite simple. The County figures out how much money they want to spend, then they figure out how much your home needs to be worth in order for them to get the tax revenue to match.
Ramsey County is a cesspool for fiscal irresponsibility, so of course they will be raising property taxes. They don’t know how to live with in their means.

We just moved to Burnsville and got our tax assessment. It’s for $25,000 over what we paid. Their explanation is that they’re going off of numbers from 2 years ago. I don’t care what numbers they’re going off of, they’re coming out for a re-assessment on Wednesday…

Your headline says it all. The elected nobility and their scribe friends love to explain how complex the system is, with those 14 reasons why your property taxes can go up and down. 13 of those 14 reasons establish the ratios used to apportion the total spending, reason number 1. And they hide behind those 13 reasons, not the underlying problem: spending.
