  • That Didn’t Take Long

Posted by Andy on April 3rd, 2008

So I post this morning that I am thinking of running for National Delegate, and with in minutes, the State Party types start making calls trying to stop it. Luckily some people have a thick skin and rigid backbone.

Here’s a little tease of what my lit pieces, may be like.

Our party needs to remember Reagan’s greatness, NOT by simply saying his name, but rather by re-enacting what made him great. By taking our message of conservative ideals directly to the masses. If we’re out numbered in the Legislature or Congress, then our Executive Branch (R)s and Party leaders had better well go ignite the grassroots groundswell to oppose the liberals’ plans and push an alternative and conservative message and give our officials the fuel and support they need to fight back.
    [...]
We need less government, less regulation, less spending, and lower taxes. We have majority ideas, we are a majority party, we just need our own leaders to believe what I do. I refuse to believe the era of small government is over, and as a National Delegate I will make sure the 6th District is represented by someone who won’t take liberal as an answer to anything.

No offense, but I find your implication that you are a “Reaganesque” candidate somewhat interesting for two reasons. First is your resistance to ANY tax increases EVER. Don’t get me wrong, I’m NOT advocating tax increases right now especially since the government started digging deeper into our pockets on April 1, but the truth is that RONALD REAGAN RAISED TAXES! In 1982 alone, he signed into law not one but two major tax increases. The Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act raised taxes by $37.5 billion per year and the Highway Revenue Act raised the gasoline tax by another $3.3 billion. He also signed into law an increase in the Social Security tax rate in 1983, and the Deficit Reduction Act of 1984 increased taxes yet again. Granted, he was generally opposed to tax increases, but he used a common sense approach that included tax increases when logical and needed.

However, the biggest reason I find you drawing the similarity to yourself and Reagan so interesting is how you constantly break Reagan’s 11th Commandment. “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican” was an ideal that Reagan strove to live by. Can you honestly say the same? I think not. I also don’t think I need to bring up his “80% rule”, do I? There is no doubt, the way you and others have treated many good Republican elected officials lately is most certainly NOT the treatment they would have received from Ronald Reagan! In fact, your words would draw a stern rebuke from him, I’m quite sure!

I miss Ronald Reagan. I believe our country is in deep need of someone just like him. Ronald Reagan is my personal hero. Friend, you are no Ronald Reagan.

You broke your own standard. Now, I suppose I could attack you for using an anonymous name and calling me a friend when your IP matches someone I happen to know, but then again, you really don’t have anything to add.

Judge me all you want. Cast attacks as you feel fit. I only hope I gave you enough time to get the lit pieces printed up to attack me and still make it down from Big Lake.
