War On Drugs….. Well, The Bags For Drugs
Posted by Andy on March 7th, 2008
Well, Chicago is waving the white flag in the war against drug use.
Tiny plastic bags used to sell small quantities of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and other drugs would be banned in Chicago, under a crackdown advanced Tuesday by a City Council committee.
Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) persuaded the Health Committee to ban possession of “self-sealing plastic bags under two inches in either height or width,” after picking up 15 of the bags on a recent Sunday afternoon stroll through a West Side park.
Lt. Kevin Navarro, commanding officer of the Chicago Police Department’s Narcotics and Gang Unit, said the ordinance will be an “important tool” to go after grocery stores, health food stores and other businesses. The bags are used by the thousand to sell small quantities of drugs at $10 or $20 a bag.
How about Chicago take a different route and maybe require drug tests in order to receive welfare and assistance from the city and county? Maybe, who knows, get tough on drug use and the scumbag dealers?
Frankly this is just plain silly bureaucratic time wasting. It isn’t like these bags are exclusive to drugs. Ever bought some do it yourself furniture? Home improvement goods that has small parts? Heck anything made in Chiwan that needs some tender loving assembly? Yeah, they all have these little self sealing bags.
Chicago is a prime example of how not to run a government. Maybe we should ban that instead.
Navarro referred to the plastic bags as “Marketing 101 for the drug dealers.” Many of them have symbols, allowing drug users to ask for “Superman” or “Blue Dolphin” instead of the drug itself, he said.
Oh crap, now they are going to ban Superman…..
But seriously, are the Chicago officials dumb enough to ignore the fact that drug dealers will find a new way to sell their crap? Simply banning plastic bags is not going to end drug use.
As a public service to Chicago Cops, please be prepared to see a huge increase in self sealing plastic bags over the size of 2 inches by 2 inches, in places where you have drug use.

Have these clowns never heard of a “Seal-a-Meal” or a “Euro-sealer”? This will have absolutely no effect on drug dealing and will only hurt those who have a legitimate use for the bags such electronics manufacturers, arts and crafts shops, fishing supply stores, etc.
How about a policy of fail your drug test the city uses your welfare check to offset the time you spend in the slammer.
