Words To Live By
"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

To Abide Or Not To Abide – What Is The Future Of The Pro-Transit Tax (R)epublicans

Three of the Pro-tax increase (R)epublicans will meet their makers tomorrow at BPOU endorsing conventions. Reps. Erhardt, Peterson, and Abler all have to explain their decision to override the Governor’s veto and raise taxes $6.6 billion. MPR has the story with a few choice tidbits.

Erhardt will not abide by the endorsement. In my BPOU that is an automatic disqualifier to seek the endorsement. One can only hope Erhardt’s BPOU is the same.

Abler is clueless:

“One wrong on a test is not an F, if it was even wrong,” he said. “And I did well in school, but 95 was an A when I went to school and I’ve certainly done that well by my people. I hope they recognize that. I hope they see that,” he said.

Um, Jim, you failed the final. It was a pass fail exam and worth 100% of your grade. I am going to try to make it up to SD48 tomorrow to watch the Abler convention. I may even try to do a little liveblogging.

Peterson who shares a Senate District with Erhardt refused to talk to MPR, but he is facing a challenger.

I also talked with someone in SD49 last night. That is the home of Tinglestad, who had her endorsement refused on the weekend before she voted to override. I’d say it is pretty dang safe to say that there is no way Tinglestad will be running as the endorsed Republican this year.

She’s been threatening to switch parties behind closed doors, and I think the local Republicans have finally reached the point to hold the door for her. For years she’d been promising to be a good Republican ‘this time’, she finally burned up all her 9 life lines to the conservatives. They have 4 or 5 candidates seeking the endorsement.
