Cars? We Don’t Need No Stinking Cars! - BDB 2.0

Posted by Andy on 28th February 2008

Honest to gOD I think the people designing and proposing light rail are ceritfiably insane.
    (emphasis mine)

On Wednesday, the Metropolitan Council approved a light rail route that will run across the Washington Avenue Bridge down Washington Avenue to University Avenue, and then on to St. Paul.

The council has not decided whether or not to allow vehicle traffic or just the light rail and buses.

Concerns have been raised that the new rail could kick traffic off Washington Avenue, one of the most congested areas in the Twin Cities.

“Over the years we’re seeing a lot more cars, you have a lot more students, you have lot more biking,” said Campus Pizza Owner Jim Rosvold.

At first, the University of Minnesota administrators, area businesses and residents wanted the light rail to tunnel under Washington Avenue, but that was too expensive.

Now those who frequent this area could be bracing for a future with no vehicle traffic on Washington Avenue, only buses, light rail and emergency vehicles.

“You’ve got four lanes out here and then all of a sudden you’re directing stuff into residential areas that were never designed for that,” said student apartment complex manager Nancy Rose Pribyl.

There is another option to allow a lane of one way traffic each direction which would reduce sidewalk space and possibly more.

“In the business community we have stores that are fairly close to Washington Avenue that might be considered eminent domain and taken out,” said Rosvold.

The Metropolitan Council Chair Peter Bell understands the concerns of businesses and residents.

    He doesn’t understand poppycock!

Inmates running the asylum doesn’t even begin to describe this absolute injustice and abuse of power. In order to build the BILLION DOLLAR BOONDOGGLE 2.0, they have to destroy the areas it will disserve in order to build it.

Some day people will look back at how we are destroying our neighborhoods and towns for this social engineering crap and wonder how in the world our society survived. People in ivory towers are playing God.

I almost have to wonder in SimCity is to blame. These people are experimenting with our daily lives. Just one problem, there is no reset button!

    DFLers Gone Wild! - 2008

Posted by Andy on 28th February 2008

The Legislative session is turning into a long drawn out dream sequence for liberal socialist DFLers. They have already passed the largest tax increase in MN history; a Constitutional Amendment to fund the arts; and today they will start firing people based on lies.

Today the Senate DFLers will refuse to appoint one of Pawlenty’s Commissioners. Sen. Steve Murphy has had a long hate affair with Carol Molnau. He’s loathed her since she took office, and today he will abuse his power and tell her, ‘You’re Fired’.

Democrats with the help of Liberal Republicans are turning the 2008 MN House election map into a target rich opportunity for the Republicans. The DFL is pretty much just going through their Party platform page by page. Bi-partisan my arse!

Up yet this session from DFLers? Government run health care, a 4th income tax rate, more municipal and higher ed welfare.

Give the DFL power, and it goes straight to their head, but not before it rummages through your wallet.

This committee hearing needs a lot of common sense testifiers.

Do they think people are really that dumb?

    AAA The Leadoff Blogger

Posted by Andy on 27th February 2008

The latest Blog House is out and yours truly is the lead off hitter.

“Here’s what squishy liberal Republicans and Democrats can claim as an accomplishment today: $7 Billion in new taxes!” wrote Andy Aplikowski at Residual Forces (1). “Yep, that’s right Minnesotans, just when you thought it was safe to spend your own money again, it is time for massive tax increases! Tax increases are not exactly something in the mainstream or in the priority list of most Minnesotans. Have fun with that one.”

I smell taste a great job opportunity for me in Lynchburg

For lovers of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, Jimmy Bedford has the dream job.

As the brand’s sixth master distiller, Bedford is responsible for making the world-famous whiskey at the Jack Daniel Distillery, which was registered in 1866. He’s been featured as the face behind the product in advertising. And he’s traveled from the tiny Tennessee town of Lynchburg around the world to promote the brand.

On Tuesday, the 68-year-old Bedford said he’ll retire effective March 31 after working 40 years at the distillery, including the last 20 as master distiller.

Do the RIGHT Thing, Principles Matter, Votes Have Consequences

Posted by Andy on 27th February 2008

There’s plenty of internal party discussion on what to do about the 6 (R)s who raised taxes $7 Billion. Overnight a group of us in CD6 had the MDE post on the Seifert presser yesterday sent to us with a request for comments.

    Here are mine:

There needs to be further action taken. Abler is already trying to say the Guv made him do it. Tinglestad doesn’t give a rip. These 6 need to go as do the 2 in the Senate who voted to override for no reason other than their strong desire for a $7 billion tax increase on the citizens. Those are not Republican values or principles. Democrats didn’t run on raising taxes in 06, neither did Republicans, so why in the world did 8 Republicans do so?

I’m part of a conservative network group that had the State Chamber of Commerce as a participant. We had been meeting monthly  at party HQ, but on Caucus day they moved to the Chamber offices. The group is headed by the TaxPayer’s League, but organized by another person. When this month’s invite came and I saw it was at the Chamber again, I respectfully declined and told him I’d no longer participate if the Chamber was involved.

Numerous other people did the same and the next meeting has been canceled. Oh and our business is canceling our membership to the state chamber.

Our local Chamber opposed the State org’s plan. Local chapters are the real small business home. The state chamber is driven by huge corporations that that are seeking to lower costs by having state taxpayers pick up their operating costs. I encourage all of you to check with your local Chamber’s and see if they supported the State Chamber. Adjust your memberships accordingly.

Now let’s find some real conservatives and run them against Tinglestad and Abler. We can’t have these 2 on the ballot for the (R)s. It is going to hurt Bachmann. If we follow our principles we can’t support Abler or Tinglestad at the CD level. Bachmann can’t afford to write off 2 HDs.

    AAA

For all my fellow conservatives who don’t want to let Abler and Tinglestad get away with it. Here’s what you/we need to do. We need to find people to run against and challenge them. If there is no alternative, these BPOUs will have no choice.

    Anoka Disapproves Of Their Turncoats

Posted by Andy on 26th February 2008

Here’s a nice article by MPR on reactions in Anoka to Abler & Tinglestad’s traitor-esque vote to raise taxes.

Even the Democrats who stop by Casey’s think raising say raising the gas tax is a bad move. Anoka DFLer Kelly Witthuhn said she can’t afford it.

    Read the whole thing.

    Double Secret Probation!

Posted by Andy on 26th February 2008

I’m sorry, but I am just not very impressed with the move by Rep. Seifert.

SAINT PAUL — (February 26, 2008) — State Representative Marty Seifert today announced the six Republicans who voted to override Governor Tim Pawlenty’s veto have been removed from their leadership positions.”I have spoken with all six members and received their resignations from their lead positions on House committees and in the Caucus,” said House Republican Leader Marty Seifert. “I respectfully ask the House Democrats to respect our decision on this internal caucus matter.”

A source told me this is the first move and there is more to come if need be.The need be was yesterday. The time for punishment is now. We either rehabilitate them or vote them out of the Caucus just like Mark Olson. Chriminies, Olson was a rockstar on the Transit tax bill. And what does he get, (IR) he paid his debt and can legally serve. And he does a hell of a lot better than any one of those 6 with his arms teid behind his back. But nope, these 6 get their slap on the wrist with no real reprimands. elephant.jpg(photo via)I calculate the wrist slaps cost only about $1.1 billion dollars each.(Yes, that is an elephant using a toilet. My caption is not very PG)
