  • Ron Paul Robo-Calls - “Slate Of Delegates”

Posted by Andy on February 5th, 2008

Caucus goers beware, Ron Paul is up to funny business. Here’s the transcript of the Ron Paul robo-call I posted on last night.

“This is Ron Paul with an important message for all our Minnesota supporters and volunteers.

The MN Republican caucus is tomorrow, February 5, at 7pm.

I’m calling to urge you to attend your local caucus tomorrow and vote for your slate of Ron Paul delegates. We have strong support in Minnesota, but only if you attend your caucus tomorrow evening we will be successful.

You do not need to be a Republican or even registered to vote to participate in the caucus, so please bring your friends and family to guarantee our voice is heard.

We recommend you get there 15 to 30 minutes early to sign in and meet the rest of our supporters.

If you have any questions or need to find your caucus location, please call 1-877-RON-PAUL. That’s 1-877-RON-PAUL or visit our campaign website at www.RonPaul2008.com and select ‘Minnesota’ from our state headquarters menu.

I’m so thankful for your support and encouragement. Tomorrow, let’s stand tall for freedom in Minnesota. This is Ron Paul, and I approved this message.”

Here’s one of my longstanding pet peeves. Candidates that abuse the grassroots process simply for their gain and at the expense of every one of the local candidates.

Please be aware of what is going on tonight. A lot of these Ron Paul people are not in it for the Republican cause, but simply for Ron Paul. Your Precinct and BPOU are critical for supporting legislative and municipal candidates. Don’t let your area be highjacked for a Presidential candidate with nary a chance of winning, whose hardcore supporters may not going to be around when the rubber meets the road to get your local candidates elected.

Vote wisely tonight for Delegates and Alternates to your BPOU conventions and for Precinct leaders.

It’s fair to ask people who are running for delegate who they are supporting. I suppose people could lie or pretend to be neutral but I’d vote for someone who supported my candidate but promised to support whoever was the guy at the end. I don’t think I’d support somebody who supported my candiate but was so bitter they said they wouldn’t support an eventual nominee. I understand the feeling, believe me, but IMHO, a person has no business being a delegate if they can’t agree to that.

The Ron Paul folks I’ve met aren’t party people. If Ron Paul isn’t on the ballot, they’ll either not be voting or they will be voting in some other party (not necessarily DFL).

      Andy based on this statement:
“I will not vote for John McCain, no matter what party he calls home”
Should you be disqualified from voting?

You are saying that unless your guy wins, you will not support the Nominee.

      Your own suggestion:
      # Challenge the Romney/Paul supporter’s credentials.

Will they vote for other Republicans this year (when) if Romney/Paul doesn’t get the nomination?

    3. Margaret Says:

Why should they be disqualified from voting? I said they ought not be elected as a delegate. Running as a delegate means to me you are committed to being a part of the process from the beginning to the end. People can support whomever they want as a delegate but I wouldn’t support anybody who made it clear that they were only interested in being a delegate for one candidate.

    4. Andy Says:

It is up to each Precinct as to who participates. If my precinct doesn’t like my statement, they can challenge my right to participate. I can defend myself, and they get to vote. Since I know my precinct shares my view pretty constsitantly, I am not too worried. That is unless non-Republican paul head show up and take it over. Then all bets are off.

marg. The key is that the straw poll is part of caucus, so if you can’t participate top run for a delegate position, you can’t vote in the straw poll.

In other words, we do things arsebackwards here in MN.

    5. Margaret Says:

I guess I have the straw poll and delegate election as separate items. Since we have such loose election laws about registration, anybody who shows up should be allowed to participate in the straw poll, being elected delegate is a privilege bestowed on you by your fellow caucus attendees. Every time I have run for delegate, people have asked my opinion on the candidates and on diverse issues like abortion. If they don’t like my answers, they can always not vote for me.

    6. Andy Says:

State law dictates who can do what. I believe it is to protect teh parties from being meddled with. So Dems can’t show up at the GOP caucus, vote for someone like…. say Ron paul…. and then leave. Or, so that GOPers can’t show up at the Dem caucus and pick Kucinich and such.

The Dems say you can show up at 6:30, put your name down, vote, then leave. You can also do so in the GOP ones too, but not before 7. (most people I ask say that) I frankly don’t like that idea because you could in theory run around voting everywhere.

And here’s the stinker, in my BPOU you can put your name in for nomination to be a delegate as an absentee. You still have to be elected, but you are not there to defend or make your own case. That’s how our local rules define it.
