  • From The INBOX: Did Carey Break Promise

Posted by Andy on January 28th, 2008

A few people are questioning whether or not MNGOP Chair Ron Carey hosting an event for Mike Huckabee is a breach of the agreement he made with the State Executive Committee on January 10th. Now I think the Executive Committee went limp wristed personally back then.

    RF Flashback:  Back Tracking, Underwhelmingly

Here’s the jist of that agreement as I understand it.

    • Not take an ‘active’ role in the Huckabee campaign, thus the bump down to “Honorary”
    • Not speak at any Huckabee event
    • Not do any fund raising for Huckabee
    • Not use any Party time or resources for the campaign
    • Not represent Huckabee at any official or public MNGOP events

    Thoughts?

      From your post Andy:
“He said that he will continue as before devoting his focus to the State Party and is planning a very active period working and traveling to promote the Feb 5 caucuses. He said he never intended, and will not now, to make public appearances or answer media inquiries on behalf of the Huckabee campaign.”

Hard to see how an invite only event for home schoolers at his own house would be considered a MNGOP or even for that matter a public event.

Also heard the Chairman this Saturday on 1280 pushing the caucus process.

Following him someone (Ed?) called in and said the DFL was trying to pass a Rommney/Massachusetts style health care amendment to our MN constitution.

Didn’t get a chance to write down the info, but he mentioned he was introducing a resolution at his caucus and suggested others do same, before health insurance becomes a constitutional right.

Anyone remember the blog? I guess I could go listen to a replay, but figured this was quicker.

    2. Andy Says:

Agreed, and as you may have noticed, I didn’t say he did break it, and yes, have pretty much defended the Chairman in this case. Some people say yes, others say it is worth noting. I agree with the later.

It may have been Gary of Let Freedom Ring.

The DFL and their cohorts on the left are warming up their machine to make the push to pass that damn amendment so that they have the ability to pass single-payer like Health Care laws, and Gary has been all over it.

I only wish we had some sort of leadership on a statewide basis to stop what they are doing. But every one is off campaigning around the country on behalf of POTUS nominees, or worse, have a ban on policy discussion.

(Pawlenty is out of town again for McCain, Coleman was in Florida last week for Rudy. Carey hosted an evernt at his home for the Huckster.

(ahem!!!) Paulsen! MN House! Bachmann! Kline! Davis/Day!

Shouldn’t Minnesota’s Republican leaders be a bit more focussed on the homefront?

    3. Sam Says:

      Agree on both counts.

Could you post his or a suggested Resolution, as I recall the new resolution rules require the same amendment to come from 2 CD conventions.

It would be nice see a few (2-3) resolutions that are important highlighted here, so when tuesday comes we’ll have some resolutions to talk about other then the ones the high school kids bring for extra credit.

Andy, You’re right. It was me. I have the text of the constitutional amendment posted in several places on LFR along with other facts about the DFL’s single-payer healthcare disaster.

Anyone who’s attending the precinct caucuses must read what John Marty, Tarryl Clark & the DFL wants to do to our healthcare system. Scary is understatement. Disastrous is too timid. Here are the must read posts I’ve written about their plans & their allies:

    5. Sam Says:

Can you post a suggest Resolution.

I sure we could each come up with our own, but if we all have the same one, will save some time for Resolution Committee when they all come together.

    6. Andy Says:

This is a DFL platform resolution he is talking about, but it is also armed with DFL legislators ready to pass. The scary part is not the resolution, or the DFl legislators, but what the lefty group (which is not a fringe group the left distances itself from) is that once the amendment is passed, it basically guarantees single payer health care in Minnesota.

I’m not exactly sure what all gary is planning, but it should be noted what the left is up to.

Also, if you are interested I should be on 100.3 this Friday with Sue Jeffers to discuss Caucuses and we plan on spending time on Platform and resolutions. If you have any you would like discussed or brought up on air, you know the email. Or feel free to listen and call in.

Sam - I am going to throw out some possible ideas on my blog over the weekend. I am in the process (with the help of the lovely Sue Jeffers) of getting a bunch of them put together.
