  • McCain - Over My Cold Conservative Heart #2

Posted by Andy on January 11th, 2008

There is a post over on True North from Marty claiming that Fred Thompson is just another John McCain and that Fred just needs to drop out and endorse McCain already.

Frankly my friend, Fred Thompson is no John McCain.

RF Flashback: McCain’s Kyoto ver 2.0 (US-BETA) Dream

McCain’s Climate Stewardship Act, cosponsored with Sen. Joe Lieberman (D., Conn.), is a political roadmap back to the Kyoto Protocol, the United Nations global-warming treaty that the Senate preemptively rejected by a vote of 95-0 in July 1997.

Might want to read the rest of that one if you believe Fred is a clone of McCain.

And then there is the Gang of 14. In case you don’t remember that is where McCain organized 7 Democrats to join him and 7 Republicans to block Republican attempts to confirm solid strict constructionist judicial appointments from President Bush despite Democratic roadblocks. Republicans, with a 55 vote majority in the Senate at the time, were preparing to put an end to filibustering judicial confirmations, but the Maverick McCain put an end to that.

Fred Thompson helped get John Roberts confirmed despite.

It is also incredibly laughable that John McCain actually said that he wanted to extend the Bush tax cuts last night in the Fox debate, considering he voted against them. He opposed them n 2001 and 2003, Fred voted for them. He opposed them, because he didn’t want to grow the economy to increase federal revenue. He sounded exactly like a Democrat at the time. Fred did not.

McCain is also on the rampage of trashing Don Rumsfeld, now correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t that a MoveOn sort of thing?

    (ahem) Amnesty!

Do we want to talk about his assault on the automobile industry? How about his stance on closing Guitmo? Or his opposition to asking terrorists tough questions under certain circumstances?

McCain has done more to block freedom and conservative policies by working with Democrats than almost any other US Senator.

Sorry Marty, but there is a huge difference between John McCain and Fred Thompson.

There is another very telling difference between McCain and Thompson. The media loves McCain and despises Thompson.

Let’s not forget that McCain’s very stature exists because the media propped him up every time he obstructed his own party. They give McCain hero status not for his war record, but because heroically defies the Republican Party. When Senator’s Lieberman and Zell Miller defied their party’s stance on Iraq, they were shunned by the media. McCain is affectionately called a “maverick”, but not Lieberman or Miller.

Regarding the Iraq War, McCain gets very few points from me. He was AWOL when Democrats levied lie after lie about President Bush’s actions and our progress in Iraq. He even had a knack of becoming a thorn in the administration’s side just when a Democrat campaign of demagoguery against the White House reached fever pitch. Then, when one of these campaigns started losing steam, McCain would suddenly back the President and later take credit for President Bush’s successes with the war.

But, back to my original point. The media has been eager to advise Thompson and Romney about dropping out. Yet, they treat McCain and Huckabee as inevitable. They never offer their advise to the latter two candidates about when they should drop out.

Now, lets be honest here. The media doesn’t want Huckabee or McCain to be President. They want Barack-O-Hillary. There flagrant promotion of Huckabee and McCain is not for the benefit of Republican supporters, it is to depress the voter turnout from the Republican base and help Barack-O-Hillary win the White House.

    2. R-Five Says:

Mark Levin cleverly blistered McCain, saying that he (Levin) was upset with all the GOP candidates and would vote third party. He detailed what he was looking for, like limiting CEO pay to $5 million, reducing the patent on drugs to 5 years, win in Iraq but then take a breather from the world stage. Not knowing where he was going, I was starting to worry.

But then he (Levin) finished saying if that offended you as a Conservative then why the hell are some you out there supporting John McCain? Great radio, and right on point.
