This Is (such and such) from the Star Tribune
Well, it is an interesting night for sure. I have had 2 Star tribune reporters call me. (Note: They called me) They were inquiring about the Carey Huckabee deal and what might take place tonight. I did talk to them.
For others out here I’ll share, I suppose I could give a state of things update. The Republican Party of Minnesota State Executive Committee is meeting as I type this. it was a regularly scheduled monthly meeting, but this will likely take up a considerable portion of the agenda. I can’t tell you what is going to happen, I really don’t know.
I do know that at least some members of the State Ex. Comm. are not happy about this, and something is going to happen. I think we could expect a few things. The outcome of tonight will probably be along the lines of my post from last night. The Strib is going to write on this. And Chances are there will be some who are not happy.
If Carey is asked to leave the party, his die hard supporters and Huckabee backers will be upset. If he just slapped on the wrist, others won’t be satisfied and this will probably not be over.
I think it is safe to say that Carey did cross a line and raise serious concerns about trust/loyalty/accountability of the paid full-time employee. And that is not sitting well with the State Central Committee.
A main point by the countless “critics” right now is how it is going to be really hard to trust that if Chairman Carey is working big donors that he is not also mentioning that he is also for Huckabee. And on daily operations, which Carey controls, well, is he doing it for the good of the whole Party and all our candidates both Federally and locally, or is his year long bias for Huckabee going to seep through?
I think we can trust that Party staff won’t turn into the Huckabee campaign, and this isn’t about who is supporting who.Look, to me and a lot of people out here in the grassroots, this is a trust issue. Carey breeched that on Monday with his announcement, especially given how he said that he and the Deputy Chair had to remain neutral. It is insulting for the ‘grassroots’ party chair to decide that we aren’t smart enough to make the right decision in Presidential candidates, and he took it upon himself to go to bat for what he calls, “the best of the best” in candidates despite there being an ongoing heated debate at the grassroots level of the party he was elected by.
Huckabee’s liberal record aside, had the Chairman picked any one of the candidates, it would still have been wrong. Does it matter he picked Huckabee?
In my mind, and many others’, it reflects even further on his judgement, but again, this raises serious questions about his intentions to lead the day to day operations of the Republican Party of Minnesota. Will he always let his own personal belief and opinion guide his decisions in running the Republican Party of Minnesota?
I should be able to report what happens at the conclusion of the meeting tonight.
I’m guessing between 9 and 10PM
