  • New Hampshire’s Last Chance - Fox News GOP Forum

Posted by Andy on January 6th, 2008

I’m going to watch the Fox News Forum and will post reactions as it goes, if I have anything I feel is notable.

7:08 - Taxes, I have to agree with McCain in that we have to cut spending. Although he is a Big Government guy. You can’t solve the spending problem simply with cutting the pork. The programs are far too big and consuming vast portions of the spending.

7:11 - The Huckster and Romney are going after each other. The Huck won’t answer a simple question. “Did he raised taxes by a half a million dollars?” After being embarrassed,he said the courts made him do it, but it was for the children. (puke!)

7:20 Social security- Fred’s social security reforms were poo pooed. So in other words, solvency is not a problem. Let’s keep leveraging our children’s future for AARP. (puke)

7:21 The Huckster still thinks he is not being negative. I have to wonder how much longer Bush will sit back and not respond.

7:29 - McCain really likes to attack Rumsfeld. It is almost personal like the Democrats lash out. Sure, McCain did help push for change, but does he have to take the negative tone in doing so? Regarding his agent of change claim: well, he’s been there for 20 years, he’s killed a few pork projects, but his finest moment seems to be running Rumsfeld out of DC.

7:32 Romney: Sending the same people to Washington, but in different chairs isn’t going to change a thing. (best line so far)

7:55 The Huckster once again sticks his foot in the foreign policy mouth. He wants to close down Gitmo because he thinks Americans will feel better. Fred had a great comeback about the facts, I want to hit home the fact that Mike Huckabee wants to give al Qaida members access to our prisons and courts. He can’t really be serious. Putting al Qaida operatives in prisons where they can recruit with in America? Putting al Qaida on American soil?

8:07 Did Rudy put glasses on? I don’t think hge started the forum with them on, I made a mental note, now he has glasses on.

8:17 The Huckster has once again tried to say he is not negative. he tried to take credit for avoiding being negative in Iowa. He was referring to how he didn’t run the negative ad in response to Romney. That was the ad that he left Iowa, flew back to Arkansas to film, then flew back to Iowa to hold a press conference to release, oh and it had been delivered to TV stations, then he went on to show the ad to the media at said press conference….. but he didn’t run the ad.

    The end:

Well, I am left with one major point. Mike Huckabee has no business being the Republican candidate for President.

Rudy did well, Mitt did well, Fred had a few good moments when the others weren’t quarreling. I would have to think McCain came off smug. That leaning forward smartass smile after he asked questions bothered me.

8:41 Fox New/ Luntz Focus groups, well, the New Hampshire group tonight seems to be much better and informed than I had seem at some in the past.
