Well, the leak (likely) from McCain’s camp that Fred was DOA in Iowa was clearly a ploy. McCain was the only one who stood to benefit from it on the Republican side, and Democrats were far too busy on their own side of the isle. Poor form, shame.
Yes, I would have loved to see Fred do better in Iowa, but compared to where the MSM and other camps had him coming in, he did do very well. Now we are off to New Hampshire, and 2 debates over the weekend, now with 100% less Ron Paul. Debates are excellent tools for the issues to get back into this race, which were hardly part of the Iowa leg.
Huckabee managed to massage the MSM push just right with little to no focus on the real issues. His problems with the limited government orientated conservatives, based on his own past, won’t go over so well in the coming states, and there is no time to get personal. Iowans fell for the Clinton-esque charm and voted for their pastor-in-chief, but there aren’t enough days left to spin it in New Hampshire. Evangelicals may get you across the Iowa Caucus line, but it is not enough to rely on nationally to win this. Huckabee has to talk issues with people, not just sound like a Democrat promising hope and change.
It is time to get to the place where the Huckster, Romney, and McCain are jittery…. The issues and a focus on one’s own record. There is one candidate who has a huge advantage there in my opinion, Fred Thompson. On the issues, he is the clear conservative candidate.

Actually, I talked to a blogger friend who lives out east who told me that Mitt Romney was worried about Fred’s late surge, too. My friend thinks that it was either McCain or Romney who leaked that bogus story.
