That’s how long it took for me to get from New Brighton to Eden Prairie last night during rush hour.

There is no good way to get there from here, so i tried to cut through Minneapolis. Thousands of others tried that too. It was brutal. I was on 4th Ave. for over an hour. I had plenty of time to sit in traffic and watch complete imbiciles driving, not to mention ponder why in the world the Minnesota State Government chose a company that will take longer and be more expensive to rebuild the 35W bridge.

I encourage all the people who think that there is no rush to get that bridge back up, to go stand down there at rush hour. Go back into the neighborhoods where traffic is being rerouted. It is a nightmare. That bridge needs to get back up and running sooner rather than later. Hopefully my girlfriend recorded my phone call monologues I was giving her. I was on a roll. I had nothing better to do. I got to the point where I was counting how many lights were on in the tall buildings. It was that bad last night.

And to make matters worse, I was supposed to help a young lad with a science project. By the time I got there, and we had dinner it was bedtime. You see, I had to be back to work by 6:30 AM to plow snow here at work.

(Closed circuit to the girl in the white cavalier that was sitting smack dab in the middle of the Southbound lanes on the Central Avenue bridge over the Mississippi: Why in the world were you just sitting there? You were on a decline, why didn’t you try to coast out of the way? Did you notice the giant Mystic Lake tour bus that was fractions of an inch from your car trying to squeeze around you on the right side, while thousands of cars were backed up for miles behind you? )

(Closed circuit to the SOB that was driving that new Hybrid bus that was devoid of passengers in that same general area: You’re an asshole. It is a turn signal. It means the driver of that vehicle wants to move over. A decent person would have allowed them to merge in. But when you are driving a 40 foot long rolling roadblock that is gumming up traffic even worse, I guess you get a little ego trip in you. And think it is your duty to pen people in and not let them turn. )

That folks, is why I think putting all or most of our transportation dollars into mass transit is a terrible idea. We need roads that can handle the flow. Yes, there will be traffic jambs, but we shouldn’t be forced to expect them.
