Blow Out Of Dismal Proportions
The Vikes have somehow managed to do it, yep, they have us all clinging to playoff fever, but you really can’t believe the hype. The boxscore from today’s game tells the sorted tail.
- Vikes: Total Net Offense – 251 (NY: 309)
- Yards by non-offensive plays: Vikes- 240
That’s right, the Defense and return team had nearly as many yards as our “high powered” offense.
More glowing numbers from the boys in Purple.
- Passing – 124 (NY:234)
- Rushing – 127 (NY: 75)
- 3rd Down Efficiency – Vikes: 5-13 for 38%
Now it was a rather enjoyable game to watch as I was dozing in and out of consciousness on the couch, and it was so wonderful to see them ‘own’ Manning Jr. so badly, but if not for the Defense, I feel it could have once again been indisputable proof that Childress can’t run an offense and is over matched as a head coach in the NFL.
If you watched the TV coverage today, you got to hear the FOX announcers all but mock Childress’ Vikings Offense for being as telegraphing as can be. They caught on very early in the game that whenever the Vikes had a running back 7 to 8 yards deep, it was going to be a run.
If not for 38 yards from Jackson’s scrambles (something not exactly in the Childress playbook), we’d have not managed to break 100 yds rushing on the day. And if not catching a break on the opening drive (69 yd. under thrown bomb) we’d have not broken 100 yards for passing offense.
We are not a playoff caliber football team right now. Sure they are almost getting fun to watch, but not Childress’Â offense. Mediocrity is rooted very deep on the offensive side of the ball. Not the players, it is the system. The Defense is unpredictable on the season.
We got lucky today.

I think this is one of the best Andy-isms ever.
NASCAR being done, I started watching this game and it was very enjoyable. I even listened to some of the radio replay at midnight.
We might disagree about coaches and stadiums, but we have to give the Vikes their due today.
