Robo-Bigotry & The Need for Leadership

Fred Thompson’s campaign released the following statement regarding the push polling/negative calls regarding Mitt Romney’s religion in Iowa.
Statement by Communications Director Todd Harris
McLean, VA -Thompson for President Communications Director Todd Harris today released the following statement on reports of push polling phone calls being made in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina:
“There is no room for this kind of smut in a Republican primary election. While there are certainly issues our campaigns disagree on, we are united by far more than that which divides us. One of our candidates is going to emerge from this process as the standard bearer for all Republicans, and we will need a united party to win next year. This kind of robo-dial bigotry which tears down Republicans today will only serve to prop up Democrats tomorrow. It has to end and end now.”
At the end of the day, it is not who is most electable or best in the debate format that should lead the party against the liberals, it is he who can best reunite this party already divided so bitterly. Down to the most local levels, operatives are out there slashing and burning their fellow Republicans. And there is great distrust with the agenda of the Party and many of the elected leaders after the record and performance of the last few years.

It is so crucial that Republicans be able to put the past behind them and rally around our candidate, but more importantly, the conservative principles that divide us from the liberal Democrats.
It will take great leadership from party officials as well as candidates to reunite this party. If things continue to go as they are, more and more honest hard working loyal conservatives will give up on the Republican party.
And we all know what that means.
