  • DFL Is Broke, Still Clueless

Posted by Andy on November 9th, 2007

    What, no one to tax?

But the sweet taste of victory didn’t linger long among DFLers. Melendez said that small donors — the $20 contributors — quickly lost enthusiasm for the gains the DFL made in both congressional and legislative seats last November.
“There’s anger toward the party,” said Melendez. “Sometimes it’s logical, sometimes it’s not. Many of the small donors are frustrated with the Congress and with the state Legislature. The frustration with the Congress is over the war in Iraq. The frustration with the Legislature is over the sense that Tim Pawlenty still is getting whatever he wants. There are people saying, ‘We won in 2006 — why haven’t you changed the world yet?’ “

Maybe the DFL needs to realize those small donors realized what a colossal mistake they made a year ago when they sent a crew a of tax and spending, pacifist, power hungry socialists to St. Paul and Washington.

Just food for thought, maybe the DFL Legislature’s behavior is far too left for Minnesotans.

I doubt the liberal donors realized they made a mistake last November. It could be that Democrats have taxed the the $20 donors so much that they don’t have $20 to donate anymore.

But I the theory that people would rather give to high-profile candidates then parties and groups that aren’t flashy is a more logical choice.

OTOH, the frustration with the Congress and with the state Legislature is more of a lack of understanding with how the legislative process works. It is not just a problem with liberals as many conservatives lack the similar knowledge of the difficulty in legislative change.
