  • Is The Media Afraid of Fred!, Or Giddy Over the Prospects of Deconstructing Rudy?, Or Possibly Trying to Take Out Hillary?

Posted by Andy on October 17th, 2007

Now, Fred Thompson, the candidate, is disappointing (me) compared to Fred! the prospective candidate. But, regardless he is in, and still better than the rest in my mind.

But the way the media seems to be assaulting, or rather insulting the elder southern Thompson is rather odd. Now we all know they have a soft spot in their hearts for Team Clinton, and have been bending over backwards to help her rewrite the Clinton legacy. But one would think that they would surely go after Rudy in this case, as he is supposedly the one GOPer who can beat Hillary by splitting the Democratic vote.

I have to wonder if the media is amptly prepared to destroy Rudy.

The guy does have a past, including the usual skeletons in the closet that most major candidates have, and then some. The media has been virtually hands off him through the endorsement battle, which is surprising to me. Now, being New York Mayor, he’s pretty familiar with the media powerbrokers, so maybe they can’t bring themselves to character assissgnate a guy they got to know personally, and possibly even like, even if it is a Republican.

But it is curious, just why the liberal leaning media is stepping into the conservative leaning Republican nomination. One would think they would want the Democrats to win, which they could easily help should a rock solid bonafide conservative get the GOP nod. This is something they are tuned up for, especially after their 7 year assault on the Bush record. So why would the media interject itself in a way that would propel the more moderate Rudy? Maybe they are just making sure Rudy gets the nod, and keeping their ample powder dry in the mean time to seal the deal against the Republicans.

Thompson is a guy that can satisfy the base on most issues, and seems to have a better across the board record than his counterparts. Sure, he has been a bit of a let down, in the way of finally getting that date with the cheerleader was back in Hoghschool. Not at all as exciting as you thought it would be. But the chances of him galvanizing the Republican machine behind him is better than that of Rudy, Romney, or McCain, in my opinion. I guess that is a possible reason why the media are trying to take out Thompson. It is the Clinton strategy, divide and conquer, after all.

But that brings me to Clinton.

Do you think the media is possibly trying to set up a Rudy run, because they can live with him? Could it be that the media is growing tired of the Clintons, and is worried about the possibility of another 8 years of all things Clinton? The endless coverups, cooperation, and coordination would be burdensome, and be the final nail in the coffin for any credibility the media has left with Americans. Don’t forget they have been at war with the current administration, so any cozying up to the next one, would be a dead give away of partisanship.

Is it possible for the media to be as tired of the Bill and Hillary show as the rest of/most of America? I hope so, and frankly, I think it is time for the Bush and Clinton families to give us a generation off. Maybe the media is also ready for something new.

But I am still not sure why they are going after Thompson they way they are. Could be that he’s a Southerner, could be they are scared of him for his conservative principles that they fear the country would like. Who knows.

But it is incredibly odd how and when they end up getting involved in the Republican side of things. They are trying to get us to pick a moderate. Either one they can live with, or one they can destroy.

    Thoughts?
