For Crying Out Loud!
I am firmly in the camp now that the people running the Republican party have absolutely no clue what so ever what the hell they are doing.
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!!!!
What the heck is next, trying to get Democrats to switch parties?
Honestly! This party needs a swift kick in the nuts. Either the current leaders need to keep doing what they are doing, there by destroying what little is left of this party, and put us into the brink of irrelevancy, so people will wake up and throw each and every decision and policy maker and strategist out on their asses so we can rebuild. It is clear they have absolutely no clue or intention of changing their ways.
Or they had better figure out real goll darn quick that the only thing that could possibly inspire people to work for, vote for, and join the Republican party is to convey a message different than that of the socialists and in a way that it makes sense to voters.
My gOD, this country is on the brink of socialism if the liberal special interests and their lapdogs in the Democratic party take absolute power. But you know what, Republicans aren’t standing up and pointing out how damn bad it would be under Shrillary. Nope instead they try to steal her ideas, cut out the massive tax increases, and claim it is conservative. Reduce theburden of Government? Nope! Cut spending? Nope! Instead it is more entittlement programs.
SCHIPs is a perfect example. How do you Republicans that are supporting this, who claim to be conservatives, sleep at night? You should be ashamed of yourselves, cause you know what, I am of you.
Wake the hell up Republican leaders. RINOs setting the agenda for the broader party are exactly what is wrong with this party. When the top of the ticket in a state is in direct conflict with the grassroots principles, it will affect every race down the ticket. I suggest each and every one of you go show up to a grassroots level meeting, sit in the back, and listen to the discontent with what the heck you are doing. Bring a pad and pen, take notes! You might just learn something. Those are the people who will keep you in office. Do you think they will work for you if you continue to piss them off so badly?
Why would voters vote for a RINO when there is a perfectly good Democrat right next to them on the ballot?
I know a lot of you think winning is everything, but it means nothing when your principles don’t cross the victory line with you.
- Moderation doesn’t inspire.
- Triangulating the margins doesn’t inspire.
- Running the party simply based on fundraising startegies is setting this party back generations.
- Running GOTV programs based on quotas is suicidal.
It is the issues that will return this party to majority status. That can’t happen if all we do is steal the left’s ideas, repackage them, and NOT make sure it is the socialism and collectivism that the Democrats aim to bring to America join the failed Soviet Communist and socialist ideas on the ash heap of history.
An America where personal responsibility, freedom to pursue happiness, and liberty have been forgotten and circumvented by politicians, is not an America I can live with.
If the leaders of this party don’t figure out real damn quick that they can’t allow RINOs to run around setting the broader party agenda, and worse, lecturing the grassroots for standing on their principles, this party may as well start packing it in, because it will be destined for history.
This party is crumble at the seems. The base is the foundation of this party. Like a building or bridge, it is only as good as the foundations will allow it to be. A lot of us are tired of carrying all this weight.
Reagan didn’t win by stealing the Democrat’s ideas, he used their ideas to convince people the become Republicans. Newt didn’t take over the House by being a squishy moderate trying to triangulate to middle of the political road, he laid out a plan and in a corrdinated effort, he was able to win races across the country because people believed in those ideas.
It was when the Republicans abandoned those ideas, that things turned bad for this party.

[...] approach offered by local blogger and MN GOP Senate District Chair (albeit not a SD in the 3rd) Andy Apilkowski: I am firmly in the camp now that the people running the Republican party have absolutely no clue [...]
A silly question, perhaps, but why can we not do BOTH? By all means we should wheedle, cajole, and bluster at our elected officials before, during and after they make a bone-headed vote, based on our most noble adherence to principle. But then we should should work like the devil and contribute ’til it hurts to get them re-elected, regardless, as a matter of supreme self-interest. If Hillary wins, and takes Democrats into Congress with her, WE WILL ALL DIE an agonizing and early death. For me, that trumps a little frustration here and there.
Andy,
I have to agree with Party official on this one.
Yes Ramstad is as bad (equal to) a DFL in that office.
But by retiring now, he is forcing the State and National party to pour money into a race they should not have to worry about this year.
This is during a Presidential election that will have full moon-bats money doing the GOTV.
So not only has Ramstad betrayed the party for years, but his timing is his final act of party disloyalty.
Keeping him in there for two more years would give the party a chance to get a real candidate some money and name recognition for a full run.
Instead money that could be spent to help Michelle or the Presidential candidate will likely go to Ramstad’s replacement.
Y’all have been saying that a solid conservative could win almost any election, and now you think only moderate/RINO Jim Ramstad can win? Make up your mind!
I have consistently said that a principled Republican, running a decently-funded and reasonably smart campaign (which we ought to know how to do by now) can easily win in a “swing” district like the 3rd.
The catch is “a decently-funded.”
Money is in short supply, so it is proper of the party to figure out a way to save some money now so that they can run a real campaign in two years and win the seat back for the Republican party.
So I would rather see Ramstad there for two more years then either a DFL win over a bad (short funded) campaign or worse yet a RINO Republican who is put up because CD3 thinks it doesn’t have enough money.
The first option gives the DFL an incumbent, harder to remove and the second gives the DFL a permanent hold on the seat (since we are not supposed to remove RINOs)
So if the choice is Ramstad, a poorly funded Conservative or a RINO/DFL, I’ll put up with Ramstad for two years to get the seat for 20.
Sam, that’s pretty good thinking, but I’m still not convinced. The problem with GOP fundraising, I have it on very good authority, is that Republican donors are holding tight to their wallets to “punish” elected officials who depart from Republican principles. For example I hear statements like, “You will never see another dime from me if Norm Coleman votes to override the veto on SCHIP.” Heck, I’ve even made such statements myself.
Point being, while I’m not sure it would work in a Congressional district race when we have RINO-itis in statewide races, I have a suspicion that a “true” conservative could tap a large pool of frustrated donors and do very well.
J. I think you are probably correct, and talking to some folks it sounds like Michele and John are both having no problems getting money – The only concern being the idiots the DFL put up may make voters complacent and the margins of victory won’t be as large.
But the problem is, that is an assumption, and it is a reasonable position for the party leadership to try and save money until they get money. And with Norm still at the top of the ticket, money will be hard to raise for everyone.
So I still would rather have the right candidate have time to be chosen and get ready over the next two years, then pick the best we can do now. We might get lucky, but I would rather be sure than lucky.
That being said, it’s hard to be too upset about Ramstad leaving.
