Does DM&E Under Another Name Pass the Walz Test?

Posted by Andy on 21st September 2007

A reader passed along a press release about how Reps. Tim Walz (D MN1) and Jim Oberstar (D MN8) are meeting with groups in Rochester about the possible go ahead with the DM&E railroad expansion.

ROCHESTER, Minn., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ — U.S. Reps. James Oberstar
and Tim Walz met with Rochester Coalition and Mayo Clinic leadership today
to discuss the sale of the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern (DM&E) railroad to
Canadian Pacific and its affect on the proposed Powder River Basin
    expansion project.
As proposed, the expansion of the DM&E line through
downtown Rochester remains a major concern for local residents, businesses
and Rochester’s Mayo Clinic, which is Minnesota’s largest private employer
and a leading worldwide destination for health care.
“We support responsible investment in transportation infrastructure,
including rail,” said Glenn Forbes, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic Rochester.
“Our goal is simply to ensure the safety of our patients, staff and
community. We appreciate the support of Representatives Oberstar and Walz
as they begin discussions with Canadian Pacific about the future of this
    project.”
It remains to be seen if Canadian Pacific’s acquisition of DM&E is a
positive development for Rochester and other communities along the line.
Canadian Pacific’s willingness to have meaningful discussions about how to
mitigate the project’s negative impacts and protect communities along the
line is the Coalition’s primary concern.
“This sale represents an opportunity to meet directly with a new set of
owners to ensure that the safety needs of our community are addressed in a
meaningful way,” said Olmsted County Commissioner Ken Brown. “We see this
acquisition as potentially positive and believe the Canadian Pacific will
be interested in finding common ground.”
“We have actively reached out to Canadian Pacific and asked for early
meetings,” said Rochester City Council President Denny Hanson. “We are
optimistic they will work with our community to allow for a safer railroad
    through southern Minnesota.”

This should be interesting for the Southern MN Congressman who faces a tough reelection in 2008.

I am taillights folks. See you when I feel like it.

Oh yeah, it is supposed to be what, 80 degrees and nice? Hmmmm, sounds like fantabulous boating weather to me.

    Time for House Cleaning

Posted by Andy on 21st September 2007

Brian Davis who is running for Congress against Tim Walz (D MN1) had the following to say about Walz and MoveOn.org’s disgusting ad.

    Dear Friends:
Today, I have called on Congressman Tim Walz to denounce MoveOn.org’s political attack on General David Petraeus.
This past week, General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker delivered their much anticipated report to Congress on the current status and progress of our armed forces in Iraq.  General Petraeus, a four star general and the Multi-National Force commander in Iraq, was attacked in a prominent advertisement in the New York Times paid for by MoveOn.org before he testified.  The ad questioned the General’s honesty and loyalty.  This attack states that “every independent report shows that the surge strategy has failed”, yet many have reported just the opposite, particularly as it relates to the Anbar Province region of Iraq.
Congressman Walz in a recent Minnesota television broadcast stated several times that this progress was “organic” to this province, essentially denying that the U.S. military has played any positive role in affecting change in this region.
Congressman Walz is doing a disservice to our country and troops fighting Al Qaeda by denying their contribution.  MoveOn.org takes liberal extremism to a new level. We need more civility in Congress and when the current congressman won’t stand up to them, we need a change.
In 2004, a leader in MoveOn.org claimed that they had taken back the Democratic Party and stated, “We bought it, we own it.”  In 2006, MoveOn.org made contributions to many Congressional campaigns including that of our incumbent Congressman, according to filings available through the Federal Election Commission.  In addition, MoveOn.org claims that Congressman Walz’s campaign received nearly $106,000 in contributions and independent expenditures.
Walz should stand up and return the contributions his campaign received from MoveOn.org. That would be a step in the right direction.

    Out of My System

Posted by Andy on 21st September 2007

I just left this comment over at MDE’s site. Been building up for a while. And feels loverly to get off mny chest.

Sue I agree. having the courage to attack someone with your name on it speaks volume for your own credibility and character.

I’ve said many things, smart or stupid, liked or disliked, etc over the years. but my name has been on it every time, so the people who didn’t like it, at least know from where it came from.

I know a lot of political operatives and smear merchants love to work in to shadows and throw bombs from where no one can see. Heck, for a short time, I too was fed the bombs to go throw on behalf of so and so and such and such….  Of course you prefer to do that same thing, Lash out from behind the cover of anonymity, rather than try to sit down and get to know me, or look at the progression my blog has taken over the same years, and decide for your self if maybe I am not the worst thing out there, but more importantly, allow people to come to their own conclusions. Anyways….

What people like the fractard  hate me and my blog for was something that happened a long time ago. Some of the more current stuff stems from where I took on the Party leadership and top officials on leadership and policy issues.

I chose to opine on my principles and that of the conservative first movement, and I did attack those who have strayed from the values and principles that matter most to me. Also, they are the values you’ll find carried forth on the Party Platform, a document far too overlooked by officials once the get the endorsement by us, the base of the Republican party.

I chose to stand for what I believe, not what people want me to or tell me to, and a lot of people, Brodkorb and the Carey campaign team included, did not like that.

But, in the end, do you know what, people could simply choose to avoid my blog, which many have. They could try to discredit me and my blog, which a lot of people have done, and Michael’s “unmoderated comments section” and how he ran the Chair’s campaign, and his monologues on his radio show, along with the smear merchants like you have pretty much done taken care of that and made me and others like me irrelevant in Republican politics. Kudos. The party is getting smaller.

Thanks to asshats like you, people now think that Andy Aplikowski is not credible. Sure I have said things based on emotion and passion at times, but who hasn’t. I’m a volunteer in this political world, not a paid operative who makes their living off of it and how it all pans out for the person I am backing.

Oh and we do know that I has an awful lot of enemies, most of them in the Republican Party leadership circles. This is the insulating group and victory for victory’s sake level of GOP politics, where principled conservatives are usually the worst nightmare. Look I know that there are people who don’t want my blog read, sadly most of them are Republican leaders and officials. You sure seem to be a Republican praising Michael the way you do. There is a division in the party. The sides are being drawn up. There’s the people like me who stand for principles first, and there are the people like you who believe in smearing the enemy and burying them beneath enough mud that no one will dare see them.

I’ve said lots of things. Made, as most humans do, lots of mistakes. But there is one thing, I feel I can hold my head up high above the rest and say….

I’ve had the honesty and integrity to put my name on my opinions and statements. And they are my opinions. Unlike some bloggers out there, Michael included, my blog is just that a blog and nothing more. It is not a news site. It is not something where everything is fact checked by the teams of people who feed most political bloggers.

I’ve made a lot of friends doing what you and others so clearly hate, so much so that you seem to have opposition researched me, and are very likely one of those behind that cowardly smear letter during my Vice Chair’s race. By the way did you know that you turned more stomachs off with that and really pissed off a lot of people with that cowardly attack. In fact, a lot of people came up to me and told me to hang in there and that attacks like that really made them angry. Heck, I only lost that race by 5 votes.

In the end, I care far more of the opinions from those I have been elbow to elbow with in the trenches and looked in the eyes when things went well or failure rained down upon us. The volunteer activists and other bloggers who I have gotten to know along the way is what matters far more than whether you or Michael, or Pawlenty, Coleman, Bachmann, or Carey like or read me.

By them touching and sharing with me, or my blog giving them inspiration that there is still someone out there fighting for what they came to this party for…..

    conservative principles….

I’ve done enough already to feel it was all worth it. I’ve tried to draw people to this party through pushing ideas and visions, not  to bog down the other side with mud slinging.

So in the end. To the readers of MDE who have seen variations of my name, blog, and what not I think you should make your own decisions. Go read my blog and decide for yourself. If I am the hack that people like this fracktard think, you don’t ever have to go back. But think for yourself. Come to your own conclusion. Don’t take an anonymous cowards’ word for it, heck the person can’t even put their name on what they say.

Please just remember that I will always be the one who puts my real name on my opinions, and yes AAA is real, those are my initials. I won’t cower in the shadows and throw bricks and smear someone from the darkness where no one can see who I really am.

And you can also be rest assured, that if there is someone who is actually someone you shouldn’t read, I would likely tell you to go read their blog and make the same decision for your self. Unreadable pap, is pretty easy to spot and I’d have confidence you could figure it out.

When one has to dictate to never ever go read that …. well it seems they might just possibly be afraid of what you will find if you do get there.

If I am the fracktard this anonymous coward says I am, the readers will easily figure that out for themselves and never ever come back.

Why don’t you let them come to their own conclusions?  Why is it that some in this party feel shutting people like me up is their #1 mission?

that’s better. Have a good weekend all.

    Plum(bing) Tired

Posted by Andy on 21st September 2007

I had to head to the cabin yesterday. The Septic Company was coming to install the new system, and I had to reroute the plumbing under the place. I spent all day on my back and knees cutting out 50 year old cast iron drain lines and hanging new PVC drains. Oh and digging a trench under the footing from the crawl space under the cabin to the outside so the company could hook up the new system.

I will be heading back up again tonight to correct 2 minor glitches I discovered when grabbing all the tools out from under the place last night. Not major things. Just minor “what was I thinking” deals. Like the trap for the shower, and the main outlet line slipped out of the hub before the glue dried.

But hey, I flushed the toilet in the place yesterday for the first time in months. That is progress.

Anyways, I’ll be heading up to take care of those things as well as finish up running a couple new water lines. I’ll also have to take care of the mud and hope that rain yesterday wasn’t too bad. Most of the yard has been dug up in the process of adding the new well and septic systems.

I will try to remember to snap some pics.

So take care and have a good weekend. Hopefully when I come back, I will care about the political world again. Right now I feel like re-prioritizing my time and energy to where it really matters. Family, work, girlfriend, dogs, home, and health …. not in that order is more important.

    Johnson Staying in Commissioner Race

Posted by Andy on 21st September 2007

I just received an email from Jeff Johnson regarding the 3rd CD race.

    Dear fellow Hennepin County Republicans:

As some of you might have seen, my name has been mentioned in several
sources as a possible candidate to fill Jim Ramstad’s seat in Congress.
I’ve received many encouraging calls the past three days about this
potential race and appreciate the trust many of you have in me.

I want to confirm for everyone, however, that I am not running for Congress.
I announced this spring that I was seeking the Republican endorsement for
Penny Steele’s open Hennepin County Board seat next year and I remain
    committed to that race.

I have spent the past four months making hundreds of calls to delegates and
alternates in Hennepin County and feel great about the level of support I
have in the county board race.  I intend to continue an aggressive campaign
for the endorsement as I believe it’s important for Republicans to unite
behind a conservative candidate and work together to insure victory next
    November.

From the INBOX: Coleman Supports DREAM Act? IE: Educational Amnesty

Posted by Andy on 19th September 2007

Someone forwarded me a response from Sen. Norm Coleman’s office regarding the DREAM Act.

    Dear
Thank you for taking the time to contact me concerning the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2007 (S. 774). I am supportive of this legislation.

    [...]

    (Emphasis mine)

The DREAM Act is the one where illegal aliens can get instate tuition rates. IE: Educational Amnesty.

Frankly, anything that La Raza supports should be considered suspect.

Has the Senator, as the emailer who sent it to me put it, gone “squishy” on Immigration again?

I have contacted someone close to Coleman, and they were going to look into this. I have received a few other emails from well connected Republican officials urging calls to both of our US Senators to shore up opposition to this DREAM Act. So you may want to call both Senators and ask them to oppose Educational Amnesty.

    Senator Coleman - 202-224-5641
    Senator Klobuchar - 202-224-3244

Here’s the rest of Coleman’s response.

So Where Do They Get Their Money?

Posted by Andy on 19th September 2007

The local progressive Soros Rent-a-blog is quickly gobbling up former journalists from the Progressive major newspaper the Strib. First Eric Black, and now Jim Boyd. Now these people don’t work for peanuts. And hacktacular local lefties like Jeff Fecker are receiving money, a decent chunk, for their ‘contributions‘ on Minni Money.

So where does the money come from? The pockets have to be awfully deep. Someone is trying to buy crediblity in the online new media world….. but who?

One would think someone in the MSM would take a look at the funding for a mere “blog” that is hiring big named journalists. Oh and the little nugget that there are ’sister’ sites popping up across the nation in political hotspots should maybe lend some credibility to the whole ‘agenda journalism’ claim.
