If a bridge falls, does it mean the Legislature can change our lives?

In an Editorial in the PiPress, we get to see what is really behind the push for a Special Session, social engineering.

Political shifts, changes in personalities and the I-35W bridge collapse effect have re-energized a group of east metro political leaders whose interest is in our region’s long-range transportation plan. We are glad the group, known as the Eastern Transportation Alliance, is promoting a vision of how we will get around today, tomorrow and a decade or two down the proverbial road.

This is a turning point for us,” state Sen. Kathy Saltzman, DFL-Woodbury, told us last week. “Are we going to be at the table? Or is that train going to pass right by?”

The bridge collapse is their ‘battle of the bulge’??? Talk about playing politics with a tragedy.

The collapse of the interstate bridge in Minneapolis on Aug. 1 has re-ignited a debate on transportation policy and how we care for our aging infrastructure. Of immediate concern is the likelihood of a special session of the Minnesota Legislature to address the bridge collapse, flood relief and - we hope - broader transportation issues.

I don’t see any evidence that the SS pushers really do care about the existing infrastructure. All they talk about is ‘a decade or two down the proverbial road’, not re-prioritizing the last decade of Legislative focus…. on things other than existing infrastructure. Now some could say that what the left is doing is forward thinking, but I see it far different.

We do not want bridges to nowhere or trains through cornfields. We want freeways and highways and bus transit and park-and-rides and rail lines that serve the needs of a growing region. That will require a lot of groups to work together. It will require money. And it will require vision.

What made America the greatest nation in the world was our personal independence. Our unique desire for personal responsibility and determination to do better is what gives us the most productive workers in the state, but so does our ability to multi-task. It was our distrust for an all powerful Monarchy who dabbled in our lives at every chance was what led to the Revolution, and eventually America as we know it.

Light rail or point to point mass transit may work well for some, but that some is such a small portion of the population, why is it the most important thing all of a sudden? Why is the personal conveyance that revolutionized the world now the enemy of the state? The latest greatest threat to America has somehow turned out to be what did give individuals the power to be …. great, how ever they saw fit.

There is no way that mass transit, whether bus or train would work for me. Most of the people I know are in the same boat. And for all the rhetorical banter about outsourcing jobs or losing the cherished manufacturing industry, why in the heck is Government at war with the automobile?

Is the new leftist mantra, that DFL State Senator Kathy Saltzman spews, the common place thought of the left?

Is the age of the automobile coming to an end?

I’m personally starting to see why our founding fathers fought so hard for some of the aspects of our Constitution. It is clear to me that they knew that some day our new Government would become thew one they fled from and revolted against nearly 250 years ago.

An over bearing, over reaching, and life controlling Government is not what I would call a good thing for Minnesota, nor America.

many people think the Second Amendment is in place to protect their property, but it was a right granted to us by our founders, so that we could, if need be, protect us from our Government. God forbid we actually do need to revolt again, but with the lofty lefty rhetoric that is coming out of the Left’s leadership and major politicians, I think we may be heading down a road we don’t want to go.

Think about it, if the DFL and Liberal agenda do become our governance, how will that be different than a theocracy or monarchy? Where would the personal freedoms be? Where will there be room for your rights? They have plans for nearly every single aspect of your life. they want to tell you where to live, how to commute, where you can go, and when, and in what.

How in the heck is that different than a King or a Queen telling you how you should live? Is this not America?

Oh, and the one other dirty little plan of the DFL and Liberal left, they have plans for your money, much like the Monarchies and Theocracies of old. Guilt and sin taxes are the norm in their world. their is no free choice, just the ones they will allow you to choose from.

If the DFlers like Saltzman can capitalize on the Bridge tragedy, and lay the ground work of rationing road infrastructure, they will be laying the ground work for making your automobile obsolete.

(You’ll also notice a lot of similarities to Communist Soviet Union policies being proposed and fought for by the DFL and left, I chose to avoid direct connections since I know how some people squirm at calling the DFlers what they are acting like, Commies. )

tried and failed Government policies seem to be the status quo in the DFL.
