The DFL has moved its Precinct Caucuses to February 5th now too, joining the Republican Party of Minnesota.
The Minnesota DFL Party announced Tuesday that it will hold its precinct caucuses on Feb. 5, 2008, a date that has become known variously as Super Tuesday, Super Duper Tuesday and even Tsunami Tuesday, because of the import it is expected to have on the outcome of the presidential election.
I was a bit worried about the DFL holding their promise to do so, but meh.
This move does little in the larger political world revolving around the POTUS in my mind. What it does do is put more pressure on local Party units to pull off the Caucus meetings a month earlier. In my BPOU we have found some of our usual venues are not so keen on the February night and are dragging their feet with the new night.
But the good news is the Secretary of State mark Ritchie is on board and not going to hold the Parties to State Statutes which calls for Caucuses in March.

Income up; fewer of us in poverty
Incomes are rising and poverty rates falling for the first time this decade, the federal government reported Tuesday.
Oh yes, this lack of tax increases is just devastating the Country.

A dedicated reader has sent me the Republican Party of Minnesota’s POTUS poll results thus far through the Minnesota State Fair.
Fred Thompson - 30.5%
Rudy Giuliani - 20.8%
Mitt Romney - 15.1%
John McCain - 7.7%
Ron Paul - 6.7%
Mike Huckabee - 6.3%
Duncan Hunter - 5.4%
Newt Gingrich - 4.3%
Sam Brownback - 2.1%
Tom Tancredo - 1.0%
As I understand it, the poll will go through out the Fair. And please consider this completely unofficial!

Mitt Romney has opened up a northern front in the POTUS race.
The presidential campaign of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced a Minnesota steering committee on Monday made up of some heavyweight state GOP operatives.
Romney is the first Republican candidate to field a formal steering committee in Minnesota, which will hold its precinct caucuses on Feb. 5, a critical day in the nominating process when nearly half the states will hold contests.
I am guessing this is more about PR and Iowa bleed than anything, but still its nice to be noticed here in flyover country.
Members of Romney’s committee include:
• Longtime national committeeman Jack Meeks, who served as chief of staff for former Rep. Vin Weber, one of Romney’s close advisers.
• State national committeeman Brian Sullivan, who ran for the party’s gubernatorial nomination in 2002.
• State national committeewoman Evie Axdahl, a longtime member of the party’s state central committee and a five-time national convention delegate.
• State party secretary/treasurer Tony Sutton, the party’s former executive director.
Isn’t it against party rules for one of the 3 partywide elected officials to be pushing for a POTUS candidate?
Just asking… Article 9, Section 4, B.
I thought they had to stay neutral in POTUS races. I remember some people making a huge deal about this with certain people, that’s all.

Your hard earned money is not safe if a special session is called.
Lobbyists already have been wandering the Capitol halls and hitting the BlackBerrys to push their pet issues.
Don’t do it Mr. Pawlenty.
Pawlenty does have broad executive powers to respond to the emergencies himself, even without input from the Legislature.
Especially when you have Jim ‘DFL en’ Abler on your side.
But Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, who supports the idea of a special session, said he hopes the urgency of the state’s needs will make agreement possible.
“The wish is for this tragedy to push for something to happen,” he said. “At some point, you’ve got to put down the politics and accomplish what the people think we’re working on.”
I wonder if the RINO Abler knows that Minnesotans don’t support a broad and ‘comprehensive’ special session, especially for light rail.

I thought an Amendment wasn’t needed?
A district judge in Olmsted County is now considering whether a precedent-setting discrimination lawsuit against the club and owner John Remick will proceed or be dismissed.
If allowed to continue, the suit will determine whether the club must give a lesbian couple and their 11-year-old child a family membership.
Of course a good judge would fall back to Federal statute (?/ law) which defines marriage as one man one woman. But we all know that laws are left up to interpretation.

So Blogwars was a blast. Amazingly, I didn’t get hit too much, but I will tell ya, that the ones in the bare hands really smart. And yes, paintballs can make you bleed.
The MilF and Post-MilF were quite fun as well. Good golf (from everyone but me), good food, and good laughs.
I’ve been busy trying to find some good resources for political bloggers tonight.
I’m looking for outstate political bloggers. (I do have the worst blogroll in the MOB, and I am trying to fix that.)
If you live in somewhere in Minnesota and cover MN politics via your blog from a center right perspective, please drop me a line.
