  • The Great Democratic Divide

Posted by Andy on August 3rd, 2007

There’s a civil war brewing in the Democratic party. DLC vs KOS

I understand why the candidates believe they can avoid unnecessary grief from bloggers and other DLC critics, by skipping high profile DLC events in the heat of the primary season. They don’t have to come to DLC events to use DLC ideas.

The candidates know that the primaries are played almost exclusively on one end of playing field — the end near our own goal line where the most partisan activists, including those most vocal in their opposition to the DLC , make the most noise. But they also know that presidential elections are played on both ends of the field — and we’re not likely to cross the opponent’s goal line if we stay in our end. And they are well aware that the only Democrat elected and re-elected to the White House since Franklin Roosevelt ran on and governed successfully by the DLC formula.

The war is being waged against the DLC by the fringe folks at Daily Kos and the other uber-lefty-nutters who, ARE, running the Democratic agenda on the National scene. What was once the electoral and strategic powerhouse, the DLC is now the crazy old uncle that the youngsters refuse to listen to.

As National Democrats like Reid, Pelosi, Edwards, and Obama race for the approval and advice of Kos and co, they are getting farther and farther from the mainstream. There are 2 Democratic parties forming. The one of your father, and the one of the fringe left hyper-activists at the DailyKos.

Is it bad that I seem to take joy in this civil war within the Democratic Party?

No problem at all with that Joy AAA.

A great representation of that schism was seen last night when Presidential candidate, Chris Dodd CT was on OReiley last night shilling for Kos claiming it was just like every other site. Uglier than usual as he kept throwing out false talking points.
