A Tail of 2 War ‘Supporting’ Minnesota Republicans
Posted by Andy on July 10th, 2007
Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN 6) fresh off a recent trip to Iraq has the following to say about the much debated Surge in Iraq.
Bachmann said the surge “hasn’t had a chance to really be in place long enough to offer a critique.”
And
“The one thing I see is that al-Qaida doesn’t seem to show any signs of letting up,” she added. “General Petraeus said that al-Qaida in Iraq is off plan, and we want to keep it that way. That’s a good thing.”
Compare that to Sen. Norm Coleman’s statement regarding the looming debate over the same Surge.
Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., who’s already facing negative campaign ads for his support of the war, said Monday: “I gotta believe the president’s looking at Plan B.”
And what is Sen. Coleman’s plan b?
“We need to redeploy; we need significant withdrawal sometime next year. I think there will be a lot of votes before September. We’re all kind of struggling for what’s the right path. There’s going to be a Plan B. So the question is whether it’s fleshed out in September or whether it’s fleshed out before,” he said.
Actually the question is will Senator Coleman prematurely vote to undercut the General carrying out the plan to be victorious in Iraq?
Remember that not one goll darn one US Senator voted against General Patreaus, or questioned his plans, which was why he was selected for the top position in Iraq. Specifically for his Surge plan now underway, for which people like Coleman can no longer wait out, seemingly due to his own political pressure received.
Bachmann has the right idea, and I hope to gOD she has the opportunity to share a few of her recent experiences with the Senator, and reinvigorate him with a little can do attitude when it comes to supporting our military, especially since it is must do.
If you can’t take the heat!
I’ll be honest here. If Senator Coleman thinks that supporting this war will lead to him losing in 2008 and he is calculating upon that basis, then we need a different Republican who has the balls to do what is right. We can’t lose in Iraq, and it would be criminal to cut and run before the latest (pre-approved by these very same arm chair naysayers Senators ) plan has a chance to even take affect.
A vote against the troops in this case will open the credible door for whether or not Coleman should face a challenger from the right. He’s been waffly and wavering on many issues, and some can be overlooked, but not this one.
My plan B
Think I am pissed? If no one else is going to run against Coleman (if he votes against the troops) goll darn it, I might have to.
The more statements I see from him on Iraq, the more pissed I am getting.
(walking away from keyboard now before I say anything really stupid)
Update:
Yep, I remembered correctly. Patreaus was confirmed 81-0, and did promise the Surge during testimony!

Actually, there’s good news. I’ve heard a rumor, and believe it is true, that Al Franken is planning to run again Coleman. Cross your fingers…..

What bothers me, almost to your level of apoplexy, is that every time one of these stupid politicians opens his mouth, al Qaeda gets to feeling like they should just hold on a little longer, kill a few more of our soldiers or, just as good, bomb a bunch of innocent Iraqi children. If we could get these self-important windbags and nattering nabobs to just shut up for a few weeks, the war would be over, and victory would be at hand.

You really need to get out more.

I seem to remember a communication that I received from Senator Coleman. Something about how troop levels should not be set by politicians but by the commanders on the ground……should one assume that he is caving to the pressure of a couple of ads…..
