Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

Where’s the Outrage? 14,065 ‘Would Be’ Minnesotans Killed Last Year

For all the outrage and protests over the battle in Iraq from DFlers and liberal groups here in Minnesota, one would think the same people so seemingly worried about the loss of life would be equally outraged at the number of innocent lives lost right here in Minnesota.

ST. PAUL (AP) – Minnesota’s annual accounting of abortions showed the first increase in five years, a jump of 700 abortions that set off bickering between opponents and supporters of abortion rights.
State health officials didn’t attempt to explain why they recorded 5 percent more abortions in 2006, or 14,065 procedures.

Now there are people who think that it is a right for women to choose to terminate the life of an unborn baby, and although currently legal, it is still a moral issue that they must deal with.

If not for an abortion, a baby would be born. Seems to me that is taking a life, and would garner the same protests and outrage that violence elsewhere does.

Take even the same sense of need to deal with the gangwars going on right now in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Dozens of people, both innocent and gangbangers, have been murdered right here in the Twin Cities already this year, and people are scrambling to solve this problem, yet they are some of the same people who demand that the 14,065 lives could be taken, if a woman wanted to.

I am one who thinks ending a pregnancy is not a right. I do think that under certain circumstances it is ok. BUT!!!!!!!!! I do not support the DFL’s S.O.P. of abortion as a form of birth control.

Here’s the fact that far too many people are unwilling to state.

Having sex leads to pregnancy.

I’m unwilling to let the DFL and liberal groups that support abortion try to play this off as a funding problem. No the problem is irresponsible human beings. Sure accidents happen, but don’t take that out on an innocent life form who just happens to have to damned luck to be conceived to a person who doesn’t want it.

I am sorry, but 14,065 humans were murdered last year right here in Minnesota, and it seems no one cares. The number of lives lost to abortion might be close, if not *the*, leading cause of death here in Minnesota.

Frankly, I’m outraged at the lack of outrage.

  1. The ironic thing (about the way this is being reported on the local TV news reports) is this.

A local station actually dug into the numbers and found out that abortions by teen-agers went up a whopping 16% and of those teen’s their NUMBER ONE REASON for having the abortion was “I don’t want to have a child”.

So here we have the Right to Kill advocates insisting that the proceedure is not being used for “birth control” and then a majority of the group with the biggest rise in proceedures saying that it IS used for birth control.

I wonder if the MCCL will pick up on that little tidbit.

Try a little logic and do a bit of math. The increase is no where near 16% (unless you are just counting

  3. The truth is out!…

AAA has a marvelous rant up today about a sad chapter in Minnesota history.

  4. Gremiln – nice snark but the numbers were not mine. As I said I was quoting a local media report.

Note to self…don’t trust the local media’s reporting….

  5. Here you go Snark Boy…..Because I know you won’t do the homework and you don’t trust my math…how about the Star Tribune’s math…

“Experts say it’s too early to know if the increases — 5 percent overall and 16 percent for teenagers — are statistical blips or the start of a trend.

Look at the source data, Snark Girl:

I did my homework, did you? Or just leap to a conclusion from a filtered media synopsis?

The abortion rate among the 15 and under group is indeed up. But the stats reflect the tyranny of small numbers – the difference between 2005 and 2006 is a total of 13 procedures. It makes for an impressive percentage increase, but given that the small number of 15 YOs (and under) seeking abortions it has no impact on the overall rate.

If you sum the teen cohorts in the report (

  8. So did the Star Tribune lie then Gremlin? Are you saying that the Star Tribune would want to gin up the numbers? That they are a “filtered media” outlet?

I heard the 16% number on a bunch of TV and radio news casts.

personally I am outraged at the idea that is is just plain OK for under 18 teens to just up and get an abortion. if they are getting pregnant, we already have a problem. A big one. And if there is not a rapid decline in the numbers in that age group, however small, we’re failing as a society.

Look at the data, not the synopsis. Did the Strib lead with the most inflammatory cohort? Sure – it makes for a good headline.
