Words To Live By
"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

It’s The Amnesty Stupid

Trouble brewing in the GOP coffers?

The Republican National Committee, hit by a grass-roots donors’ rebellion over President Bush’s immigration policy, has fired all 65 of its telephone solicitors, Ralph Z. Hallow will report Friday in The Washington Times.
Faced with an estimated 40 percent fall-off in small-donor contributions and aging phone-bank equipment that the RNC said would cost too much to update, Anne Hathaway, the committee’s chief of staff, summoned the solicitations staff last week and told them they were out of work, effective immediately, the fired staffers told The Times.

You mean, the base is pissed and not taking it any more?

There has been a sharp decline in contributions from RNC phone solicitations, another fired staffer said, reporting that many former donors flatly refuse to give more money to the national party if Mr. Bush and the Senate Republicans insist on supporting what these angry contributors call “amnesty” for illegal aliens.
“Everyone donor in 50 states we reached has been angry, especially in the last month and a half, and for 99 percent of them immigration is the No. 1 issue,” said the former employee.

Will the leaders of the GOP figure out that they are crushing the morale of the base before it is too late?

Mark my words, if this amnesty bill passes, 2008 will make 2006 look like a dream.

There is no possible excuse for amnesty. We, the conservative base of the GOP feel very strong on the rule of law, and border security. We will not put up with ‘our’ elected Republicans and party officials driving the debate against our core principles.

It is high time real conservatives take this party back. We are all that can save it, because moderates don’t really stand for anything, they are squishy and unreliable. Hmmm, sounds like a few elected Republicans I know.

This is a stern word of caution to anyone running on the ballot in 2008 as a Republican. You will vote against Amnesty, or you will have people voting against you….. from the right.

(this is not a threat, but a statement of fact. The party and our principles, MUST be more important. Politicians come and go, our principles are what defines our values as a whole. We value our principles far more than an individual election or politician.

So vote against Amnesty or find your self a new base of support. We growing tired of ‘our’ guys and gals acting in direct conflict with our core principles. We know what we stand for, and we’re damn tired of being used by people who don’t really share our beliefs pretending they do from time to time.)

First the small donors stop giving.

Second the volunteers stop showing up.

Third you have no one out there at the grassroots level who really cares if you win because they say, what’s the difference, so they stop chatting up friends and co-workers on your behalf, thus there is no one left to defend you against the DFL and media bias?

Fourth, you lose.

Elected Republicans, it has happened before, and WILL happen again if you go down the Amnesty road.

Voters love people who stand for something. They are drawn to people who hold strong opinions. They detest politicians who follow the polls and throw their core principles out the window at the first sign of trouble.

You will oppose Amnesty, or you will be looking for a new job in January of 2009.

Captain Ed is a rarity. He is an amazingly good, kind man with a delightful sense of humor and a political insight that is borderline prescent. Some days I disagree with him but most days (like today) I not only agree with him, but I want to……
