  • 2007 Taxpayer’s Rally Video - Ron Carey

Posted by Andy on April 15th, 2007

I believe that is a Ron Carey for Chair sticker he has on his lapel. Worried, much?

I would have preferred the Republican Party Chair stuck to talking about how the party was going to work to win elections, so when we gather in 2009 for the tax cut rally, Marty Siefert has a gavel in his hand. Instead, Carey spent most of his time reading a letter from Sen. Norm Coleman. I would also have preferred that Sen. Coleman delivered his own message, and well, the party chair spoke for the party itself.

In my humble opinion, this is just another example of how Ron Carey is not the right person to lead the Republican party into the 2008 elections. Yes, I do want Coleman reelected, but I also want so much more. The Republican party should be focused on more than just helping the Governor with the PR game on the upcoming vetoes, and reconnecting Sen. Coleman with the conservative activists.

We need to reconnect our entire party with the voters and grassroots, and regain the trust of the people who were at the Capital this day. As you heard, they didn’t exactly have warm receptions to the top two leaders in the Republican party or their message being delivered by the party chair. And it was the chair Ron Carey who decided that is what the absolute best thing he could do was read that letter from Coleman at this taxpayer’s rally.

Is that Carey’s game plan for taking back the Minnesota House? To read Norm Coleman’s letter? Some fancy schmancy one time gimmick pens? And trying to tell conservatives what they should think, over their boos? Is that the brilliant strategy Ron Carey plans to employ in 2008?

Carey got as top billing as he could in the speakers lineup. He was the last to speak before the heavy hitters in Bachmann, Kline, and Lewis, but he delivered a speech that drew boos and jeers from the crowd. That should tell ya something folks.

(AAA’s Note: I had nothing to do with the crowd reaction. I swear! In fact I was a bit turned off by it. I like Sen. Coleman. He’s not perfect, but no one can represent you exactly how you want 100% of the time, but yourself.)
