McCain Snags Big Player in Minnesota
MNGOP Political Executive (Corrected) Director Ben Golnik has accepted a position with John McCain’s exploratory committee. I’ve heard rumors of many big power brokers in Minnesota following the Pawlenty suit and getting with McCain, and I guess Golnik is one of them.
I think there may be a lot of back story here, as he was one of the few remaining hold overs from the pre-Carey days, but I may be reaching there.
Golnik came highly recommended by the RNC 2 years ago. Plus what with Carey’s first ever full time State Party chair status, and Deputy Chair Eric Hoplin’s full time role, the political director was in a way, window dressing, or at the least redundancy in leadership. In my opinion, Golnik was not given room to work to his ability, and had to ‘run things by the Chairman’ far too much. You can only have so many people in charge of an organization, and well, its kinda clear where things stand in Ron Carey’s MNGOP.
Golnik is a great guy and did do the very best he could. I’m sure many Republican activists will miss him. But what with the internal turmoil and lack of conservative enthusiasm here in Minnesota following the 2006 elections, I guess I can’t blame him.
But with McCain, say it ain’t so Ben?

I’m wondering why we haven’t heard any speculation on what will happen if pawlenty leaves for washington. Carol is not governor material. Who and how will pawlenty fill his spot??
At this point, I’d rather have Lt. Gov. Molnau than McPawlenty! She actually has a conservative core!
LL
I like her but governor material I just can’t see it!
Molnau had a distinguished career as a State Senator and is more conservative than Pawlenty. I doubt that she would be reelected in 2010, but she is more than capable enough to finish the current term.
Now would THAT drive the liberals crazy – Minnesota’s first governor – a REPUBLICAN! (So much for their “Year of the Woman” rhetoric we hear every election cycle.
Sorry – meant to say Minnesota’s first WOMAN governor – a REPUBLICAN! (Of course we’ve had governors before – sorry about the faux pas)
