Pawlenty Sizes Up GOP 08 in MI

MN Gov. Tim Pawlenty let us see exactly how John McCain plans on winning in 2008. PiPress
Pawlenty, a national co-chairman of McCain’s campaign, spoke on behalf of the Arizona senator. He said Republicans can’t win swing states like Michigan and Minnesota by appealing just to Republican voters, and said McCain already has proven he can pull in independents.
“You’ve got to have a candidate who’s not only true to our party and principles, but who can win the election,” he said. “In 2008, if we’re going to be the successful party, we have to win in states like Michigan. … The Upper Midwest is going to be critical.”
Did you catch that? Yep, by not simply trying to please the GOP base. Why? Because John Mccain has a long history of opposing what the base stands for. I didn’t expect much less, and of course people will spin this, into the ‘but he can win’ meme.
This seems to be pretty telling if you ask me.
McCain can pull the independent vote, by pissing off the Republican base. And that is why I oppose him. He’s already flat out telling us he is not going to run as a conservative in the general election.
