  • Senate Show Down Over Iraq

Posted by Andy on January 29th, 2007

So the US Senate this week is about to express their opposition to winning in Iraq, and wants to send a sign of weakness to our enemy. The Democrats seem to believe that it would be best to pass resolutions expressing opposition to the commanders on the ground request for more troops. And some Republicans are racing to the white flag storage closet to join with Democrats.

Look, folks, here’s what is really going on. The troop surge has begun already. The Iraqi government with the help of US forces has begun to go after the enemy in and around Baghdad. The President is committed to this plan, as is our military. Congress can do nothing to stop it, except pull funding.

The way Republicans are trying to triangulate this so they can be both for and against the war is sickening. Fort crying out loud, they are cozying up to Pelosi and the Defeatocrat in Chief Murtha who just went to Iraq and the region over the weekend. Now here’s a question for my fellow Republicans in the US Senate: Did you see any pictures or stories about them meeting with the actual troops? I saw one report of them meeting with some commanders, and there were only press friendly photo ops with a few political leaders from different nations. But no troop photos.

They knew that if the dared show their face to the troops they’d get exactly what they should, an ear full of questions about why they want to lose this war.

So why are the Republican Senators trying to saddle your political wagons to the Defeatocrats?
