Words To Live By
"The era of small government is over ... government has to be more proactive, more aggressive." ( Tim Pawlenty 2006)

"You're just petty politicians, who'd sooner sign onto the wisdom of a tyrant in another country, than the demands of ticked off voters in your own." (Neil Cavuto June 2008)

“I didn’t question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment.” Mr. Cheney went on: “The point I made and I’ll make it again is that Al Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That’s their fundamental underlying strategy, that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we’ll quit and go home. And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of Al Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it.” (Vice President Cheney NYT Feb. 2007)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers. (Ronald Reagan March 1, 1975)

"Oh, no! First of all, if I took one vote away from a serious candidate, it would be a sin." (Al Franken Time Magazine, 9/1/03)

House Republicans Call Pawlenty’s Bluff

At least someone in the GOP has the balls to call Pawlenty out on the carpet for his spending spree. The House Republicans reject Pawlenty’s double digit spending spree.

“Our tax package features immediate relief and permanent reform. It is what Minnesotans have asked for and it is what we as a legislature should deliver,” Seifert said. “We will achieve tax relief when we put the taxpayer first. Planning for the final state budget must begin at that basic starting point.”

Seifert expressed concerns with the level of spending in the proposed $34.4 billion budget. The budget features a 9.3 percent increase from the previous budget.

“Today’s opening bid of a 9.3 percent increase in state spending is too high. We need to make government smaller and more efficient to prevent these near double digit increases in government spending every biennium. The average income of a Minnesota taxpayer is not rising by 9.3 percent. Government spending shouldn’t either.”

I had been informed that Minority Leader Seifert was willing to publically oppose the Pawlenty if he crossed a line. I’m glad to see he has done so right off the bat in response to Pawlenty’s budget. Pawlenty should be ashamed of himself for how far he has strayed from his original incarnation in 2002.

Do you even think Pawlenty remembers uttering the words  ” we don’t have a revenue problem. we have a spending problem”? Wait, I forgot, “the era of small government is over.” But then again, I am not a “weenie” and am willing to stand up for what I believe and not say what ever I have to to make people like me, or at least buy their affection.

Good for Marty and the House Republicans! Congressional Republicans take note — this is how you begin to earn back the mantle of fiscal conservatism.

I agree that Marty Seifert and Tom Emmer will be the guardians of conservatism in Minnesota. They are not afraid to let the people know where conservatives stand. It’s just too bad that our State Party used all its resources to re-elect Pawlenty and forego all true conservatives. I wonder if they got what they bargained for?

As for the mileage tax, it will devastate rural (especially northern) Minnesota. It will just reward the environutters who want to force us to give up our vehicles and live in high density metro areas and use their ‘pet’ mass-transit. It’s social engineering at its worst, and while unfortunately coming from a Republican….it certainly is not coming from a conservative.

The mandated employer health care will make the mileage tax even more devastating when you are forced to drive to Wisconsin or the Dakotas to work after your employer leaves the state. Also, I beleive this mandated health coverage violates ERISA as decided by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals last week in regards to Maryland’s ‘WalMart bill’. You;d think somebody in the Gov’s office would have realized that.

Good for them, and thanks to you, too, AAA.
