Plenty of New Extra Spending
Here’s the storyline from KSTP
Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Monday recommended the biggest state spending increase of his tenure, a 9.3 percent boost that includes $1.4 billion in additional money for education…
There is no mention of the required rebate at first scan. Pawlenty is required to propose one by law, did I miss it?
I’m dying for people to start spinning this as a fiscally conservative budget. Go ahead, make my day. Performance based increases for already bloated programs is not exactly what I would call responsible. You’re still going to be wasting money where performance is bad. So they only get increases if they are good, what about if they are bad? Oh, they’ll get the same amounts.
I’ll have more on this after I get a chance to really dig through it, but so far, this is anything but a limited government conservative’s budget. I give it a failing grade at first glance.
(Closed Circuit to MNGOP Chairman Carey: If ever there was an event to not pump out a press release for, this would be a good one. It’s the Governor’s budget, let him defend the massive spending increases.)

I haven’t seen it yet, but your last comment is a good one. The State Party ought to be trumpeting it when our elected officials propose or defend principled conservative policies. They should be “taking sides” when our elected Republicans disagree among themselves, stating which side best advances the conservative cause, and WHY. And when all the Republicans are being non-Republican, perhaps the Party should just keep silent.
So why is it that WE get this and no one making these decisions does?
